Returnable milk bottles. (Pop bottles too.)
This must be a local phenomenon there. Here, while milk* cartons go into the recycling bin, actual bottles still have deposits. Doesn't matter if glass or plastic. Most supermarkets have a bottle return machine near the entrance.Returnable milk bottles. (Pop bottles too.)
Tourists from lands with throw-away mentalities provide a small income stream for people that are determined to sleep on the streets.
Or maybe we're the oddballs. Dunno how it works in the rest of Europe.
* Milk is different here, too. Unopened milk (H-Milch) will keep at room temperature for weeks. We store it unopened in the closet, not the fridge.
Once it's opened, though, all the usual milk rules apply.
We pay more for the milk that spoils in unopened containers. (Vollmilch)

Agreed, I actually had a look to see if it was still available, Sad thing is, to get one landed in Aust would cost more than a tank of petrol!

My dad had a habit of giving away our good toys to my not so nice cousins without telling us. That is where my prized possession Robot Commando went too.
