This is true. And ya had to practice to get them just right. Perfect amount of air, perfect positioning, etc.
And yeah, I only remember them lasting about 10 minutes at best even IF all was in place

Yeah when that balloon popped so did your ego. We found out a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the ballon extended the life of the “engine”! Bloop, bloop, bloop…
Funny we grew up with all of this pretend violence and war game toys but it was rare to spill over into the real world!
It is ironic. The worst “material” we ever hurled at each was dirt clods. That was mostly to land near each other for the spray factor. That and water guns or water balloons. I had so much fun back in the day pretending. Nobody got really intendedly hurt. Something changed over the years. Maybe the video games. Sorry this is for another thread…

I was the only kid in our neighborhood with one of these. I could ride well into the night, when all the other kids had to go home.
Great on the street, but trail riding in the woods, way less so.Also, when you slowed down and stopped, the light went dim, then out.
There are still versions of this being made, apparently, but I've long since switched to a rechargeable LED system that stays on all the time. But these will always be a special kind of cool to me.
I would have loved to see one of these with a machine gun straddling the steering wheel.
