Right I just found them on line the company has been around for 90 years! I personally have not seen them in a ton of years I am surprise that they are still selling them thanks for the updated info

Stores do still sell powdered milk. Some smaller stores don't stock it. You can even order it online from Wal Mart.

It's really an epic story. He supported extended family and many in the neighborhood with food who could not find work. In return they helped at the store and his few properties. His generosity and local community support combined with his toughness meant that even the local mafia gave him a pass. At 6'4" 250lbs he feared no one and was respected by all. True story. I never got to know him as he died when I was 8 months old.

My grandfather's luck was not that good. He had grocery stores in Southeast Texas at that time. He did the same thing, but in his case, he was too generous and he got to the point he could no longer buy inventory and went bankrupt. When he closed his last store (he had 3), he burned over $25,000 worth if IOUs in the back yard. In the mid 1930s, that would be about $445,000 in today's dollars.

In the 1970's my first job out of school was "pricing" pipe hangers for a company that built mills and power plants. I sat tapping a calculator eight hours per day. (Mind numbing.) My boss could not operate "modern" Calculators of the time. He had a stack of these in his office. When one would die, he'd plug in another one.
