They don't even call them "bumpers" anymore. Front/rear "fascia".

I always thought the 5 mph bumpers mounted on shock absorbers were a GREAT idea. No idea why they quit doing this. Now they have "bumper covers" which also mount the lights, made of plastic, which shatter if you breathe on them, but because they're "bumper covers" not "bumpers" they aren't covered in the 2.5 mph bumper regulation.

I test-drove a Karmann-Ghia once - SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME

I looked this up online. Apparently the current plastic bumpers are designed to save pedestrians' lives.
