Things You Never Want Recording Engineers To Say...

"The tape machine broke just yesterday. Would you mind recording digital?..."
_The song writer I was working for had selected that particular studio because of them having an analogue tape machine there.

Things You Never Want Recording Engineers To Say...

"Would you please tell your mom to put her clothes back on and get out of the booth?!"

Win.....;)

"Look, we don't have much time to $%#& around here on your 'tone' (sarcastically, and rolling his eyes) - It's just the bass, anyway..."

If I were paying for the session, that's when we would pack up and leave. If it was someone else session, I'd ask if they would trust someone who didn't take every bit of their project seriously as every other part.

rom the looks of your current gear, you started drinking that Kool Aid :p

I've been without a Fender only for very short times and even during those times I've had a Lakland 55-02, which was partially inspired by the Jazz and partially inspired by another (Leo) Fender product, the Stingray. And when I didn't have the 55-02, I had a Stingray (and still have one). IOW, I like Fenders! As you saw in my profile, I own two.

However, I think it's rediculous that an engineer will insist that the bass be a Fender. I'd think that any engineer worth their price should be able to get a decent sound out of any decently made bass played by a decent player. If they can do that with singers and all kinds of instruments then why should bass be subjected to such prehistoric thinking, ESPECIALLY if the engineer is too young to have been engineering in the 50's and 60's.

Not completely on topic, but it could apply...

At soundcheck many years ago, the guy running the house checks my guitar player's rig. After my bandmate went thru all his patches/settings, etc. the soundguy leans forward and says into the talkback mic.. "OK. now do you have anything that sounds like a guitar?" ouch!
