This was from a concert my wife and I saw this evening. It was saxophonist Melissa Aldana’s band. Live, I was just blown away by how good the bassist sounded. The folks at Jazz St. Louis know how to mic a bass!

It's Joe Martin who produced the great sound. The sound guys just captured it.
I know the bassist is fabulous. I am saying that PA did him justice.
The organist is no slouch either! Love all of that dynamic stop and vibrato work.
Melissa Aldana is one of the best of the current sax players. Her command of the full range of the horn is amazing, and her inventiveness and deep emotional expressiveness is well worth listening to. A true creative force, and she always leads a top notch band! Glad you got to see her.
Joe Martin was part of a Chris Potter group a few years ago. He's an in demand player, with good reason.

I love the organ sound that Sam is getting. I don't often get to hear an organist venture into the Larry Young area.
That has to be Sam Yahel. Definitely one of the modern organ greats. His album "Truth and Beauty" with Joshua Redman and Brian Blade is excellent. (They also record together under different names depending on who's leading the session.)
St. Louis seems to be city with PA who know what to do with the doghouse. My first time hearing a killer upright was Martin,Medeski, and Wood. It looked like he had an 18” speaker and it felt like that bass was going to crack my sternum!
Wow, that is a great tune and the whole band is killing it. I'd definitely go and see them live.
I saw Melissa with a trio shortly after she released here first CD. I was impressed back then and she only sounds better today.
