But what I'm saying is that anytime you did, wouldn't it make you second guess yourself?
Not that exact one, but my local store (Andertons in Guildford) has 4 in stock and I've played 2 of them...
I'm not sure I understand. I use my ears to hear if I'm in tune. The lines on the bass in question are not supposed to be markers for actual frets so why would they make me second guess myself? To me it's no different than if the board was completely black.
Yeah roasted flamed maple looks sick. Our lead player uses a musicman jp with one when he’s playing songs where he wants a bar. Looks great. That’s what got me looking at warmoth roasted flame maple necks for my jazz bass
OMG, fainted, hit my head and woke up thinking I might actually be able to play it..
I'd like to see it on a nice bass, though...white might be perfect, even black.
Sunburst might just be the worst finish for that neck.
It's like wearing a pair of black-and-white wingtips with army pants.

Flame maple is always gorgeous. I had an old Guild 12 string that was all flame maple and it looked unreal. All figured maple look awesome, but being roasted really enhances it.
As gorgeous as that bass is, I’m thinking that a tiger eye top on the body would take it to the next level.

A perfect example of one man's beautiful being another man's ugly. To me, that neck is absolutely gorgeous but that 'burst body just doesn't go with it. A plain black body might have me reaching for the credit card.
I've been slobbering over that neck for a month or two, yeah, it's an absolute jaw-dropper.
Fender made a lot of fretless maple-fingerboard P-Basses (would LOVE a Jazz like them, but I don't think they made any) back in the '70s (maybe after, not sure). I've played a couple, they just sound like fretless P-Basses to me.
