Give it up. It will never be your last bass. There will always be another deal that is too good to be true. A bass that is just what you always wanted and dreamed about. A bass that is so rare that you never thought that you would ever get a chance to own one.
A bass that was abused and marked down to a ridiculously low price, but you know just what it needs to be brought back to life. I have been playing this game for 50 years and it doesn't stop. Just have fun, its only some bass guitars. If they are taking away food from your family -then stop. Otherwise- so what?

Haaa! I bought a beautiful fender jazz thinking I would keep it the rest of my life. Kept it 3 weeks and took it back to GC!

There’s a cycle I go through. I get up to about 7, each of which I justify in some way (e.g. I don’t have a fretless, 6 string etc.). Then I realize I only play one bass 95% of the time, and I feel stressed that I own (and can’t really afford) way too many.

So I go through the headache of gradually selling them off. I feel liberated when I finally get down to THE one bass. But….

In the quiet of the night, when no one else is around, I secretly begin to ogle other bases on the internet. Maybe the grass is greener? I try to fight the urge, but the pull of those other basses is just too much. When I’m holding THE one, I’m thinking of another, and suddenly THE one is not so special anymore. Before I know it, I’m back up to 7 basses, and the whole cycle repeats itself.

I appreciate everyone chiming in. I honestly thought i bought my absolute final bass recently, but am starting to dream about a Peavey MIA Cirrus V. I love those...but I just bought my final bass. Now what do I tell my wife?

I said when I bought my third bass that was the last one...a few years later...this was taken before I bought my 12th bass, a SBMM Ray 5 classic which didn't make the picture. I promise that was the last one.

I used to say "this is the last one". Now I say "I just haven't bought the next one yet".

I mean why put limitations on what you want? If it makes you happy, go out and get it, enjoy it in good health with a big smile on your face.

I am totally enjoying all the comments , thanks to all for joining my thread .... I have lived all of these stories in one form or another
One twist to my "last bass" story is I tend to get a bass tweak it until it's perfect ..... Get bored with it and sell it .... Just to start the cycle again with a new one

Another weird twist is they all have had the same set of fender flats on them I bought in the the mid 90's

The only time I've ever said "This is the last bass" is when it includes the words "I got." lol

I’ve bought my last bass for a long, long time. It’s a 4-string Bluesman Vintage build on order. I’ll have it in early 2023. Other than that, I’ve sold all but 3 basses and I’m pretty satisfied.

I don’t think I’ll eat these words, but who knows? GAS-remission can reverse without warning.
