This is my last bass !!!!

My new Ibanez GWB205 comes close to being my last bass. Got it last year and haven't played anything else since. My other bass is a Yamaha Attitude custom, pre-sheehan model, but it's in pieces. If I can't put it back together again I'll need another 4 string with frets. But as it is now I only have a 5 string fretless. I want to specialize in fretless and ignore bands that specifically want me to play fretted. Just do what I like and if I happen to find people that also like it then that's extra.

There’s a cycle I go through. I get up to about 7, each of which I justify in some way (e.g. I don’t have a fretless, 6 string etc.). Then I realize I only play one bass 95% of the time, and I feel stressed that I own (and can’t really afford) way too many.

So I go through the headache of gradually selling them off. I feel liberated when I finally get down to THE one bass. But….

In the quiet of the night, when no one else is around, I secretly begin to ogle other bases on the internet. Maybe the grass is greener? I try to fight the urge, but the pull of those other basses is just too much. When I’m holding THE one, I’m thinking of another, and suddenly THE one is not so special anymore. Before I know it, I’m back up to 7 basses, and the whole cycle repeats itself.
Does the same bass always remain "THE one?"

i thought my custom-built PJ (circa mid-90s) was my "last bass." then i retired in 2012, got busy modding, and then parts building, and now i have seven "last basses" --- and a pile of bodies/necks for some more...

my "last bass" (03/2022):

but if parts basses don't count: i may have purchased my last bass in 2012. IDK. it's a gray area. :D

Lessee... after the great apartment B&E and later an edit/mega-cull...
1 J-Type ROK
1 P-Type ROK
1 PJ-Type (Canadian)
1 Höfner clone
1 Extended 6 with actives. ROK
1 junker SS necktrough ROK
1 experimental fretless (my 3rd)

If I got rid of the fretless I would probably gut it and sell the carcass.

I should also move the extended 6 and the PJ.

Last bass I bought was a touch over ten years ago. Between a fretted P 5'er (nordy), a fretless J (parts bass) and my upright I don't find that I need or want other instruments these days. Only thing interesting me is perhaps a rob allen fretless.

I've given up on buying them, because the argument with the wife got to be too much. So I've taken to building them myself. :woot:
I've already built my last 2 (one was a 5-string fanfret, the other a fretless 4 shown in my profile pic) and I have 1 more build planned, but first I gotta finish up this Telecaster build for my buddy. :roflmao:

Lol
I'm not only the president
I'm also a client !!!

Funny, isn't it? Over the years, I have bought my last bass (in particular, Rickenbacker) on 5 separate occasions. I now have my "last" 4003....... :smug:

Same with Fenders - although since I have discovered Sire, I will probably never buy another P or J. Hell, I thought I had bought my last sire, then came another and then another. I discovered that companies OTHER that the majors CAN and DO build basses that the "everyday" person can purchase.
