THIS is why every bass player needs a RAT

C'mon guys, I just spent a month trying to decide between the Rat Tail and the Grey Stache, decided on the Grey Stache, been loving the Grey Stache for 2 months, decided at last practice that it is THE dirty sound for me... and now you's got me gassin' for a Rat Tail.

I use a Ibanez PD-7 OD for my overdrive/distortion needs before the Grey Stache, I assume you'd all recommend the Rat Tail kick it out the window?

dude.. get a rat tail and still have the grey stache!
i always have an od, distortion AND a fuzz. then you can combo on top of that.

Skulletwhip: Thats surprising, I recently got an OCD, was planning an OSD but one came up here in New Zealand cheap, couldn't say no, and I love the thing, it really drives the Rat Tail into bone crushing territory to.

i use the rat low gain style. it did the ocd's job but better. When I want to go more all out I use my home made muff. I just didn't need the ocd anymore after the Rat Tail.....They did sound pretty rad together, but it wasn't what I wanted.

Def not dumping the Grey Stache. I've used that Ibanez overdrive pedal since I started playing bass 5 years ago in college and I haven't found an od/distortion that could replace it since, although many have attempted. I don't know why I dig it either cuz it really colors your tone... I guess I just dig the color it provides.

Now for the questions I was resisting to ask (because I tend to ask it alot in the effects forums).... How does a Rat Tail sound flowing into an always-on VT Bass? As good as the Grey Stache does? I notice that with the VT I use the "weakest" diode setting since the VT adds some gain of its own, nice to see those diode switches on the RT as well.

I use the VT as my always on pedal. and personally i think it makes both my OCD and Rat Tail sound way awesome. Keep in mind those 2 dirt boxes are being blended with clean signal(VT bass ON)

Bass > Tuner > LS-2 > VT Bass > Fuzz > Delays
>Loop A - OCD > Rat Tail

I LOVE IT.

As for your Ibanez OD, if you like it man, no reason to change! But I dont use Rat for OD, I use it as a pretty full distortion. And rarely use fuzz(in a band)

I was reading my RC-30 Manual, and it says I can load my loops onto my computer.
My computer is pretty old but i'll try and get some sound clips done if i get time, if your interested. I'll also see if i can nail that tone at the end of '309', lol, or atleast get close.

Sounds pretty damn good & I hate effects... I was considering a big Boss GT 6 GT 10 to cover all my ground in case I wanna screw around. Could it come close?

73jbass! Hows your old, my old, your current Bongo 5? ha ha ha!

Ok, I've whipped together some sound clips of the Rat Tail.
A few things to remember:
-Never uploaded clips before
-Did this in 5mins
-these are pretty high gain settings, I can do lower gain ones if requested.
-Sounds waaaay awesomer through my Ampeg rig - LOUD.
-Tried to play something along the lines of Young Widows

You get the idea I hope. Turn it up abit with headphones.
