THIS is why every bass player needs a RAT

What makes the Rat Tail so superior over a normal Rat? Is it the selection of clipping diodes you guys like? Clean blend?

There isn't a clean blend on the rat tail unless you have it modded to have one.

The reason the rat tail is a good option over a normal rat is that it has better low end retention than a stock rat. To get the most out of a rat, they need to be modded or run in a clean blend loop.

Plus there are so many variants of the rat, that some are just terrible (the current production rat 2 for instance).

Sometimes its just easier to get something that does what I needs to without extra work.

I've got a 91 big box ri that has a bass adjust. An 84' whiteface with cap upgrades and a clean blend, and a rat king with a clean blend. I love all three and each has it's own sound. There's some overlap, and overall they're all similar but I wouldn't get rid of any of them.

Only one Rat? I want an original white face (modded with a clean blend), my Rat Tail, the Earthbound Iron Pig I have on pre-order and maybe a few more. Hell, I'd like a second Rat Tail (or Rat King) with clean blend and feedback switch.

Sounds familiar....I too will probably end up checking out that iron pig eventually. Can never have too many rats...

I've used several rats and I can see their value but I have never got them to sound like they do in some of these videos.

I know bass/amp/other effects plays an important part but there has to be a lot more going on.

Here is a couple new pix of my One Off Rat Clone built by the Guitar Playing in the band I'm in ... it kills!
