Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds

I put these TI Jazz Rounds on a Gibson Thunder Series V last Spring and I love them. I have been playing TI Jazz Flats on everything else, but wanted one bass strung with roundwounds... these are the perfect choice. I'm getting ready to outfit another Tobias five-string with some.

I'll admit I haven't put heavy play on them, but they seem to hold life well. Also I'm not especially hard on strings... I wipe them down after every session, out of habit.

The Gibson I have them on is an all mahogany set neck, (34") and I was afraid they wouldn't have enough sizzle, but they really do bring out the best in it. I'm hoping for a similar result on the Tobias, which is a walnut/maple neck-through with maple wings.

Used them exclusively about 5 years then w new bass purchases tried Sadowsky Blues (very good feel more present tone , higher tension) and Alleva /Labellas which are medium tension and very round overall tone and new favorite. Great B string ....
Low tension thing just got old and sit on old #1 P Bass in closet, no longer get work for me. But they had a good run

They're a different bag entirely, absolutely worth a try but they're expensive

A friend just gave me an old set of these to try on my 66 P bass. I play lots of upright so I was at first freaked out by the low tension. But I've gotten used to it and they sound INSANE. I play mostly flats, (Labellas for the most part) and for lack of finding anything better have gravitated between GHS pressurewounds, boomers and steel rotosound swing bass when I play rounds. No other roundwound I've tried even comes close to these strings. When I a-b-Ed them with other roundwounds, TI rounds had so much more output and "body" (i.e. Low and high mids) to the sound without the shrill highs of most roundwounds. If you're looking for a full, warm string with serious midrange balls that really responds to your touch these are the ones. If you have a VIP membership bassstringsonline has them for a great price.

Just ordered a set of these to put on a Pbass. I love the TI flats so much that I basically had to try the rounds. They sound like my type of string.

How do they sound on a 5 string Jazz bass..anyone go there?

They're not just low tension. They're more unique than that. Hard to explain without playing them. You can get other round core strings in similar gauges but it's not the same. Literally nothing else available feels or sounds like these.

I have a feeling I will love them. I love their flats more than any other string I have had. They have amazing mids, I can achieve very low action and my neck plays like butter. I just really want a precision with rounds as well but I am sick of the harsh highs and short string life of the standard nickel wounds.

I'd also like to hear how they sound on a Jazz bass. Interested in if they still have a good slap tone, but more mids. My 5 string Moollon could be a perfect match.

So we have a thread about the flatwounds but not the rounds. Also searching the forums I see there is a 4-1 ratio of flat threads to rounds.

I just picked up a set and it will be my first try with them.

I have played every other TI string including the Flats, Superalloys and Powerbass but these will be new to me. I am still a tad apprehensive about the low tension but I do enjoy a lower tension and I wanted a smoother easier round for a Fullerton reissue I have coming to me.

Anyone using these? Like them? Is the E string too skinny?

I'm looking forward to read your review. :)

Could you comment on your experience with the Superalloys and Powerbass strings? I am looking for a round wound 5 string set that is very clean with a reduced amount of growl. (No flames please). I have had the Superalloys on my list of strings to try for some time.

I'd also like to add that the Superalloys have the longest lifespan of any string that I've tried. However, they're the only set of Infeld strings I've tried. Very, very impressive strings, IMO. I'm more of a high tension string fan, and the Superalloys were a little too low tension for my taste, but hopefully a medium tension string is what you're looking for.
