Thunderbird Club Pt.IV

If any of you with the Limited Edition Epiphone Thunderbirds or Epiphone Elitist Thunderbirds (i.e. the ones which have the guitar-sized humbucker pickups in them) are chrome lovers like myself and want to make your bass more closely resemble the vintage Gibson Thunderbirds on the cheap, Mighty Mite sells chrome pickup rings for humbucker-sized pickups. I found a pair at a local music store the other day, and they went right on my Elitist in place of the stock black plastic rings. Everything lined up perfectly, and it only cost about $20 for the pair.

Just throwing it out there. I'd take a picture if my camera was working at the moment. But take my word for it, the bass looks WAY cooler now.

New to the forum - and very new to basses.

I just bought a Thunderbird IV this weekend. I have played guitar off and on for years. Heck right now I'm still taking guitar lessons.

Anyway I wanted to play bass as well - so I bought a cheap p-bass (squire) from craigslist to get me going a few months ago. I found I enjoyed playing bass as well as guitar. So I figured I might as well get something I'm going to want to play all the time.

So here it is. I played it this until my fingers hurt this weekend. Its fantastic.

So i've been toying around with the idea of moving the top strap button to the back. But should I? If i do, it's either on the neck plate, or like every body else: at the base of the neck (on the body of course). I have strap locks (schaller), and i just want to know, what the advantages are of moving it to the back playability wise. Cause i don't have neck dive since i hang my bass low. So that's not an issue.

If it's not diving, then its what ever cheeses your Kraft Dinner man.

For me it helps because you don't have to hold the neck up when playing, meaning you can move around the neck faster. I don't think it tilts away from me.

It's a very slim neck and easy to play. Epiphone / Gibson call it SlimTaper ... whatever that means.

The squire p-bass I have feels like it has a chunkier neck - more of the fender c-shape. That and my guitars are really the only thing I can compare it to. I think it's the slimmest neck of all the guitars I have really.

Yeah my goth bird is slim taper as well. But it doesn't feel like it since the Pro is slim taper as well, but the pro necks feels more jazz thin, and my goth feels more baseball bat.think i'm gonna shave it down to the pro size. might be faster to play too

Andii - With all your mod ideas, I would just trade your Goth in on an Epi Nikki Sixx. That will give you all the key things about the Gibson Blackbird you like: the slim 1.5" nut, the on/off toggle, the opti-grab, and of course the cosmetics. And IMO, the Deep Sixx Epi Pups sound darn close to the ones in my Gibson Blackbird. Hotter and darker than regular Gibson TB+. The only thing you'll be missing is the neck through and the Gibson logo.

I wanted a blackbird, but then got turned towards a goth. Having no inlays looked way cooler, and i liked the sound of the goth and i could never find a blackbird in stores so i never got the chance to try one for real.
