Thunderbird Club

I saw Mountain 3 piece twice in Worcester, Mass.
I grew up not far from you, Millbury Mass, we used to drive to Smithfield during the early 70's when the drinking age was still 21 in Mass while it was 18 in RI.
I was in Little Compton in the mid-70s, then moved to Miami to spend the early-mid 80s there. I spent a lot of time "removed" so my history is kinda disjointed.
I only saw Mountain that one time, in the Kendall neighborhood of Miami. But they were great! Corky Lange came out on crutches, one leg in a cast up to his knee. They opened with "Never In My Life", and they proceeded to slay us all...

I think mine was a 550, but 450 is possible. Sure listened to a lot of tunes through that thing and wasted a lot of my youth with it. Literally.

Yes, I had a bunch of hifi and stereo stuff when I was a kid, Dynaco Stereo 70's, MkIIIs etc. I would still like to get a McIntosh MC-275 someday but unlikely, this pioneer stuff sounds really good though. Messy of course. I have modern speakers with it though, Monitor 500 Bronze with double 8" woofers, got to hear that bass :D

They were unbelievable, no slouches in that band. When I saw them Felix had his EB-1 and a pile of Sunn tube stuff, I've always loved that band. I wish I had seen them with Knight though, Nantucket Sleighride is a great album.....they're all great albums. Corky is a machine.

I actually remember that. I'd come up from Miami to visit, and my old best friend and I went out to the original Living Room in Providence. We were 19, and got ourselves blind that night. Memorable...

I have played a few Jefferson Airplane songs over the years, including that one. I typically try to get the feel but don't stick to complete accuracy on whatever the original notes were. It's laziness and lack of talent on my part, primarily.
I’ve never been good enough to play a lot of things note for note but (a) I’m trying to up my game and (b) I like being able to insert a recognizable part into a completely different song.

noob alert.

I have had 0 interest in a T-bird bass. The closest I've come is that I own a Reverend Thundergun with a reverse headstock. But it's not a T-bird.

I saw a video linked in a thread on another site:
Elle Macho - "Bombs" - Lake Fever Sessions - YouTube

And as I watched and then heard the bass (and the singing and the song) I started to think I *might* need a T-bird in my life? Those of you who own them, though this sound in the video has some sort of OD or distortion on it, is that pretty true to form for a T-bird's sound?

And then I saw another video by the same band and was so taken by an image, that I screen capped it, and made it my wallpaper on my computer. Which also led me to ask myself, "Do I need a T-bird now?"

I mean, how badass is that??

Yes, a Thunderbird can definitely sound like that. (Not the Pro with active electronics, perhaps.)

The Damned recorded a pretty killer version of it. The bass is a good bit like the original- similar rhytmic bounce between 4ths, similar phrasing, only less subtle.
I covered that version, more or less, with a band, except I like the original feel too, so I copped it but with the more aggressive leaning of the Damned version...

That's awesome. Thanks.

They put the age down to 18 in Mass about a year later so that ended our having to drive to Smithfield. It was 18 all though the 70's in Mass and was a great time to play in the clubs.

I'd cheat and remove the glass before dropping the amp. And not drop the glass at all.

I think I posted this here before but I had an SVT head fall off the top of an SVT cab (810) onto a concrete sidewalk and all it did was dent the metal corner of the head and put a small crater in the sidewalk.

yeah, i think we talked about this sometime back….used to watch him all the time with Pearl and Front Runner….. he then went on tour with Yngwie and stole our singer’s girlfriend LOL…..so sad he went so young….

He's incorporating the strap-over-the-lower-bout technique that I use with T-bird shaped objects.
