Thunderbird Club

Ordered the strings the day after I ordered the base geetar… still no base geetar…

Sounds great, and fantastic playing by all, Dylan!

Thank you!

The VP sounds great. Some say they’re weak on the low end side, but you prove otherwise. Great tone.

I'm betting the pickups are right up by the strings.
What strings? What effects/amp chain?

Thank you! But actually, I believe on Red Summer it's my Greco 4001S Rickenfaker. Our other recent single was the VP:

As far as the amp, on Red Summer the set-up would have been 4001S, no pedals on, into my Sunn 2000s rig, mic'd, and then into the studio's gear.

Doghouse would be VP into same Sunn rig. The wah sound is the VP into my Chicago Iron Parachute Wah into a cranked Hiwatt DR103 and Vox 4x12, mic'd, into the studio gear.

The action on my VP is pretty low, but I lowered the pickups cause they're pretty hot. I might need to lower them some more to balance with my other basses, the VP is by far louder and has more low end than the Greco Rick or my other non-Thunderbird basses, I certainly wouldn't call them weak at all in the low end. I usually roll the bass on the Sunn down to 2 and the Hiwatt about 10 o' clock. Strings, usually I use Rotosound Swing 66s on everything, but I think for the recording session I just used the strings that came on the Grico, some no-name nickel plated rounds from Japan.

Thank you!
