Thunderbird Club

thought Entwistle gave Leon W the Fenderbird….
And I read that after LS opening for the Who and being so good, John said that since Leon was a better player this great bass would be better served going to Leon's house.

I know I read this on the internet, so it has to be true.

(Before the death threats begin and I'm canceled from things I'm not on like Twitter and FB--this was in jest and not true. Pure chain yankin'. :smug:)

Not the Fenderbird... But dig the inlays. Which is how some should be made.

As far as fretless Jazzes, Fender is very slow to adapt for some reason. You would think they would have been using ebony for years so many people used to epoxy the necks for round wounds, Fender still doesn't offer an ebony fretless Jazz neck for some reason.

You haven't seen this? (P Bass)

Fender Artist Series Tony Franklin Fretless Precision Bass 3-Color Sunburst, Ebony - US21008220-9.70 lbs | Reverb[/QUOTE]

I was talking about fretless Jazz basses, the TF is a great bass, got one in my arms right now just like that. The neck is very similar to a Jazz neck though, it's slim, not very deep although it is still 1 5/8th wide at the nut.

I thought the Franklin is a nice cross between a jazz and precision neck, sold mine because the headstock wouldn't come off...

But you’re not selling the house anytime soon. And you need to wait for the price of rebar and concrete to come down. And if your area is like ours, it’ll be months before a contractor can fit you in. Just get the Thunderbird.
Can I send you a set of strings as a retainer and say this was advice from my legal counsel?

If it doesn't work out, have you taken the bar in KY and can handle the divorce?

My wife complains but she knows better by now. At least I took the little amp out of the bedroom, (I had an SVT head and an Ampeg 15" in it for a while ) but I leave them out of the cases lying around all day in my 'music' room which is shared with her packrat collection of junk, but I'm sure she thinks the same of my stuff, basses, computer, amps, stereo, records, CDs, tapes etc. etc. etc. I pick my battles with her but my music is where I draw the line. She still insists on coming with me to EVERY gig though, you know, "the women", I tell her, "Martha, I am 69, no women are even looking twice at me anymore" :roflmao: I'm like their grandpa, But to her they're coming out of the woodwork.
Bob, if you would just stop wearing spandex to gigs she might relax a bit. :roflmao:

I must also mention that the Tele-style neck is also my favourite Fender neck. For big hands it just feels right and strong...oh, sorry, brittle and prone to twist easily.
If we get these "rumours" going as strongly as the T-Bird ones nobody will want a Tele -style basses and I can afford a one or two (ok, three) Tele -projects. Something along these lines:

I'm sure I'll come up with the third version soon. Oh, the Chris Squire version, of course. The double SCPC does that sound very well but this is white!:

See the pic from the "Fragile" booklet. They named the album because of that bass.

I saw Ron Wood's original '68 Tele bass being sold in a London shop some years ago online and it was advertised as a "man's" bass. I had an early 70's with the big humbucker years ago.

The Mesa TT800 with the 410 is is the bedroom. I’m thinking of moving it up to the mountain place this summer (I’ll try not to start a landslide) since neighbors are pretty far away and so I can really put the rig through its paces. I’ll probably be spending half my time up there anyway.

I used to use a borrowed Vox Super Beatle years ago (sounded pretty good for bass) and played a roof top outside gig one sunny afternoon on top of a little club, the whole band had too many "refreshments" that afternoon and it ended up falling off the roof. The owner was not pleased. I still see the drummer occasionally and it always comes up and we laugh uproariously all over again. Vicious, I know.

Sure. I’ll take SIT Power Steels for the work up to now. But I’m too old to sit for another Bar Exam so you’ll have to make other arrangements if she doesn’t go for it. Besides. You haven’t bought a bass since something like 2019. Right? It’s time to end the drought.

Something got lost in translation as the posts got reversed, his was attributed to me and vice versa and I said basically the same thing you just said.

First practice with the Epi TBird is in the books. Playing through my TE GP-12, 2x10 Avatar and 1x15 Ashdown cabinets, the bass really cut through the band. Of course it helps that I stand right in front of my rig (with ear plugs) but man, super clear and best of all, on the few occasions when I'd play around the 9-10th frets on the G string, I wouldn't lose the notes. I have a hard time hearing those on my other basses at times, don't know if it's a string or bass thing (or old ears).

Still playing on a 2" strap and yeah, there was neck dive if I took my hand off the neck, but I can deal with that for now.

I pretty much had all knobs at 10 unless we played a quieter song, at which time I'd roll off the tone and the bridge pickup a little.

Playing with fingers or pick (90%/10%), both sounded good. With the shape button on my TE pressed, the bottom end was a little too boomy, would make me self-conscious, but it did sound great. Will be good to get a few more practices under my belt with this bass, as I was noodling around with dials and settings and not 100% dialed into the playing. Overall? Liked it a lot.

I record all practices with a little external mic on my phone, placed about 5 feet from my cab and that's about it. I won't bore you with an original, so here's one of the covers we're doing. Bass starts at about 1:30 if you want to listen.
