The RAE is obviously not ensuring Cuban Spanish, in FL or Cuba.
There were some Spanish Palace Guards staying at the hotel we worked in that told us they could understand us in Ingles better than they could understand the Miami/Cuban version of Espanol.(I don't have the 'wiggly thing' for the N on my keyboard)

I think they have influence mainly in Spain, we don't even use vosotros (y'all ) over here.

Cubanos speak too fast even for native Spanish speakers.

I loved it the first 10,000 times I heard it . Mel Schachter is one of my all time favorite bassists as far as tone and he's just plain good anyway.

I find Mexicans pretty easy to understand though, they speak a lot more slowly than they do here in Peru. They kind of sing when they speak too, very inviting to the ear.

First practice with the Epi TBird is in the books. Playing through my TE GP-12, 2x10 Avatar and 1x15 Ashdown cabinets, the bass really cut through the band. Of course it helps that I stand right in front of my rig (with ear plugs) but man, super clear and best of all, on the few occasions when I'd play around the 9-10th frets on the G string, I wouldn't lose the notes. I have a hard time hearing those on my other basses at times, don't know if it's a string or bass thing (or old ears).

Still playing on a 2" strap and yeah, there was neck dive if I took my hand off the neck, but I can deal with that for now.

I pretty much had all knobs at 10 unless we played a quieter song, at which time I'd roll off the tone and the bridge pickup a little.

Playing with fingers or pick (90%/10%), both sounded good. With the shape button on my TE pressed, the bottom end was a little too boomy, would make me self-conscious, but it did sound great. Will be good to get a few more practices under my belt with this bass, as I was noodling around with dials and settings and not 100% dialed into the playing. Overall? Liked it a lot.

I record all practices with a little external mic on my phone, placed about 5 feet from my cab and that's about it. I won't bore you with an original, so here's one of the covers we're doing. Bass starts at about 1:30 if you want to listen.

Sounds good, nice and loud like bass should be like the tone, and no obnoxiously loud kick drum.

You know Sweetwater has them still listed at $1,899, but doesn't have any in stock. MF has some in stock for $2,199! This is evidence for building my case. The only weird thing is that say they bought a bunch of NOS which this was part of. That hardly anyone can keep them in stock makes that sound a little odd. But may have been small shop going out of business.

I paid $1,799 for mine from Sweetwater but I ordered it way early when they first came out.

english has Shakespeare….it doesn’t need any “protection” besides, english has about 20 dictionaries, spanish about 4…..who wins?….

Actually my Spanish isn't that great but I would think that the "Academy" impedes Spanish more than anything.

At the risk of displaying my ignorance... Is there any call for a working knowledge of Spanish beyond hiring a gardener in California?

Hopefully I haven't told this story here yet. I hitched across the country a couple of times when I was a teenager, the second time I got picked up by some guys coming from NY and they had had something to do with a band that had recorded 'Eli's Coming', (Laura Nyro) but Three Dog Night beat them to the punch and it was a big hit right at that point, every time it came on the radio they'd start grumbling and moaning and talking about how things could have and should have been .

I like a lot of 3DN, but always skip that song. Just never clicked with me.

mine isn’t that good either….having spoken Italian at home and having spent sometime in Spain has helped however…

A working knowledge of any of the romance languages gives a huge advantage in learning any other romance language.

I could write a book about the stupid stuff I've done with equipment when I was a youngster, like the time the lead guitarist stacked his two guitars in the middle of the driveway to our rehearsal space and then directed me in my '66 big block Bonneville station wagon and ended up on top of them with my front wheels, it was actually his fault though of course but he always blamed me.
