When I was designing the pup placement for my three pup BlingBird I laid the planned three pup template over several basses to see how it compared. You can see for yourself how the three pups line up with a single and double pup bird and a split P bass as well as a Mudbucker tele….

Basically, a single pup bird is about half a pup closer to the neck than a split P bass. The neck pup of a dual pup bird is almost a full pup closer to the neck than a split P bass. I was trying not to exactly copy my other bird layouts, so in essence I followed traditional Fender locations for single and double pup basses and Mudbucker basses.

I have a small practice area (aka, my living room....), so it's not super difficult for me to be able to change the settings on my amp(s). Especially the old Peavey, it's at eye-level :smug:

So, I leave the settings on the bass the same (mostly :unsure: ) for the same reason I run my volume pedal through the effects loop - so the input to the amp is consistent. I don't use the amp settings "flat" like a lot seem to do, so input changes (from pedals/effects, or the bass itself) have a sometimes inconsistent effect on the sound.
With the input settings consistent, and volume controlled post-eq, I only have the one group of variables to contend with.

It helps my simple brain make sense of which adjustments do what......

I do the opposite, I set mine like this at home anyway through an Ampeg 15" B-15T cab and control the sound through the pickup balance and tone control(s) on the bass. I use the ultra lo on the B-15T and don't use it on the SVT, I use the left channel on the SVT. I use the ultra high on both but usually keep the tone control low on the bass.

I don’t know what the term is.
But have you ever jumped/or chained channel 1 to channel 2 on the SVT?

Not with those but I've done it with a Fender Bassman and a Marshall Major. The second channel on the right of the SVT is a little mid forward and is supposed to have been based on a B-15 I guess but I've never used it very much, I like the mid control on the main channel. I suppose I should try it though.

I'm curious, might be worth a try again just to hear it and see if you like it or not.

Other than the 'practice' amp(which doesn't leave the house), I'm all Rumble, which has the controls on the top/rear. On the gig, the amp is tilted back and near the wall making it very difficult to adjust. I set the knobs, buttons, etc. to the room and adjust tone on the bass by the knobs and/or playing position. Volume always at 10(or 0 on breaks), tone somewhere between 5 and 10 depending on the tune.

No, I missed a bunch of shows I wanted to see. I got to the point of not even looking at scheduled appearances, thus slightly lessening my pissedoffness.
