Thunderbird Club

No apologies needed, I posted that clip just to show that Leon used the said NR at that gig.

I've never been a Skynyrd fan though I acknowledge their importance and they indeed were a great band. I like their songs and have never been over exposed to "Freebird".
It's also not their fault that every so-called Southern Rock band (a category they apparently despised, or was it the Allmans?) has to have their own "Freebird".
It's been a while since I volunteerly put on "Stairway" and I'm a big Zeppelin fan. I first heard it when my family drove back from a summer cottage and I had never heard a note from Zeppelin before. I was 12 years old and had just read an article of them. I just figured out that this must be the Led Zeppelin and imagine my surprise when the announcer confirmed my suspicions! A strange great moment.

I still think it's from Oakland Coliseum 1977:

That doesn't mean he could have used that bass earlier too. In another clip from Oakland he uses the white Jazz.

But if it's the same bass Cliff Williams plays in those '78 photos could it be that Leon gave it to Cliff and later Cliff gave it back? In 1978 Skynyrd was no more so a possibility of being on the same bill is zero. And in '77 AC/DC still had Mark Evans on bass.
Of course it's possible that there was two same looking NR Gibsons with 4 knobs, a pickup selector switch and block inlays in the neck plus the non-original pickguard.
And the NR Cliff has in the Back In Black promovideos is a different 'Bird, it has the normal NR IV features.
Not that I'm losing any sleep over this...

I was at that concert and LS put on quite a performance. It was one of the “Day on the Green” concerts at Oakland Stadium that Bill Graham used to put on several times a year for a number of years. Loads of great music and fun and dirt cheap admission with open seating in the bleachers or standing room on the field.

The first one I attended was in 1975 - Chicago, Beach Boys, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen (May 1975). IIRC AC/DC was pretty much unheard of in the states but they were the opening act and we about died laughing at Angus in his school boy garb doing his kick shuffle across the stage.

I attended one in 1976 - that starred The Who and the Grateful Dead (October 1976). I was completely wasted before the gates even opened so I remember very very little about that concert except that the red stamps were killers.

In 1977 I went to the one in your post that had - Peter Frampton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band, Santana, The Outlaws (July 1977). Great high energy concert all day long.

The last Day in the Green concert I attended was in 1978 - The Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt, Elvin Bishop, Dolly Parton and Norton Buffalo (May 1978). It was a fairly laid back concert, the girl I took ended up being pretty much a flash in the pan (I think she just wanted a free ticket to the show) but afterwards it ended up being a heck of a night, I didn’t get to work until about noon the next day.

Got married soon after that to my first (crazy) wife, so the concert going pretty much went on hold until we divorced 5 years later. I really miss those Day on the Green Concerts, I’d imagine Chucky and JIO and a few others here attended some of them as well.

Great story! Did you see AC/DC there in '78 or '79? In '78 they performed in two events.
Did you see the Pat Travers Band in '78? Or Mahogany Rush? Actually, please don't tell if you did...

Wow, that even has the original neck strap. I wouldn't sell that.
I like the bass but have a '62 I like better. Not really a Jazz guy. theres get them to sound great, I get them OK sounding. It's the only Fender "vintage" bass I have that's in near mint condition. The rest have been refin on the bodies at some point. Makes them affordable for normal people. The '71 would bring the most bang for the buck. What's Geddy's number?

I think you're right. The yellow tent, Gary has the same clothes (not uncommon as I think he only had about four main outfits). Good catch!

It was Gregg Allman who said that "Southern Rock was redundant" since rock came from the South.

 when was your last time in Britain?…
A friend was stationed in London and always complained that they sounded like they had marbles in their mouths with talking. Of course there are a few very different versions of English in England. (No offense to any Brits intended.)

I never did get to see ACDC, but saw both Pat Travers and Mahogany Rush, as opening acts for other bands, too long ago now to remember who.
