I like two pickup basses and when I use both pickups I run them full. Especially with T-Birds. I love the sound of both on except if the pickups are too wide apart (like on Ric 4005 or Modern Player Tele) 'though that might work for certain styles too like palm muted picked 60's style or Bass VI.
Ric 4003 is the only one I back the neck pickup a bit (the bass doesn't have the cap).

What else was discussed? The fav jazz bass sound? Hmmm, Hugh Hopper had a great sound and Richard Sinclair too. I love Jaco's sound especially when it has plenty of 361/361 in the mix. Paul Harwood of Mahogany Rush had a great Jazz tone, John Wetton's hard hitting Jazz tone on UK albums is great, Pekka Pohjola on his "Urban Tango" album. Too many to mention. Billy Cox!

The best Canadian band? Max Webster of course. My friend is finishing a Max Webster book, should be out by June. I've seen bits and it looks fab.

How are you liking the PF? Likes dislikes?

So far, I'm liking it really well. It's been fun exploring what it can do (still a WiP, as I haven't tried using the DI out yet....), especially considering I wasn't expecting to have one

Obviously, sounds different from my Peaveys, but not in a bad way. Seems like it may be a bit more mids? oriented with the eq set flat?

I like the size, and the features, I think it'll be the amp, of the three that I have atm, that works out best for recording to my PC.

Sounds good through both 15" cabs, but haven't done both at once yet.....

One of the things I love about it, that I do not love about my Max 250, the "line in" and "headphones out" are on the front panel, as opposed to the back of the amp

The fan is much quieter than the one on the Max 250, almost silent. But not as silent as the not-fan in the Mark IV


Can't really compare the tone to say, an SVT, since I've never played through one, but I've been watching some of the old demonstration/tips videos that Dino Monoxelos did on Ampeg TV (youtube), and he played through some settings that he said came close the the SVT CL. Ymmv, I guess? Some good info in those video series though.



Really, the only (small) thing I've found to gripe about so far, is the XLR/DI out on the back panel is oriented in such a way that a 90 degree XLR points straight down.....meaning the amp has to be pushed back far enough on whatever it's sitting on so the cable/connector will clear. Or, use a straight plug, and push it forward enough that it doesn't interfere with anything. Like, for example, the wall
Not really sure there's a better way, though, given the size/form factor.

I would still have the burst VP. I wouldn't make much on the white one and Miles has first dibs on it. I thought about listing my '71 Jazz. It's near mint and a custom color (black). First year for blocks I believe. I'm the third owner. A young guy ordered it from Fender when working at a music store and never really used it. Finally was talked into selling it in 1980 to a guy who never gigged it, just jammed occasionally with friends.

I’m not a J Bass fan. But even I wouldn’t sell that (unless it’s just a heavy boat anchor that you’ll never play).

Unfortunately the only time I’ve seen AC/DC live was at DotG in 1975. They were a relatively new band at the time, I had never heard of them before that. They weren’t even listed in the line up for bands that day. They were the first band on stage and basically a warm up band for the headliners.
Never got a chance to see Pat Travers or Mahogany Rush live but I bet they’d be great.


I always went for the green, as near the stage as I could get, that’s where the wild girls were. Don’t know about the deck seating, but there was always plenty of illegal libation to buy on the green. Vendors literally walking around with a boxes of every thing you can imagine, yelling out things like, “Thai Stick, get your Thai Stick here”.


I missed a bunch of Day on the Greens. I don’t think there was a bad line up in the bunch. The prices were ridiculously low, something like $10 a ticket IIRC, of course it only took $12 to fill up my ‘65 Mustang gas tank. At the time I lived in South San Jose, we’d drive to the BART station in Fremont and take that to the Stadium.

An quick back story you might relate to - in 1975 I was a high school sophomore in San Jose. Was laying out at the pool in the backyard and listening to the FM radio station KOME (or possibly KSJO) and decided to call in a song request for Rikki Don’t Lose That Number. By the time my call made it through the switchboard the disc jockey said “ Congratulations, you’re our tenth caller, you win two tickets to Day on the Green with Chicago and The Beach Boys!” I didn’t even know what day on the green was.
I didn’t even drive at the time, so my neighbors mom took me down to the radio station to pick up the tickets. My friend and I hitchhiked to the Fremont BART station (tipped the driver with a couple fingers of Maui), had a great day on the green and imbibed in all sorts of libation. Got home the same way. Sometimes I’m surprised I’m still alive.

It was a kinder, gentler time.

Fedex finally delivered on time, but the Wanderlust Green Epiphone Embassy I have had on order since 3/12/21 is junk.

I exploded the pics they sent me and I can see the scrape mark on the upper bout, and the very discolored fingerprints (almost rusty) on the claw and bridge. Scuffs on the edges of the bridge pickup.The plastic is still on the pickguard, but it looks like someone was using a hacksaw as a pick.

those things were kind of irritating, but I can remove the plastic on the pickguard, polish off the fingerprints, and scuffs, and buff out the finish scratch.

I wasn’t even going to fret about it.

Then I went to set it up with the stock strings.

action way too high, with the bridge bottomed out.

pickups lowered as far as they can go, and they are WAY too high.

I could cut the saddles to lower the action, BUT with the pickups bottomed out, the strings would be on the pickups.

my other embassy is pretty much perfect and it was purchased as a Demo model.

I had it out of the box less than an hour and a half. It’s already boxed up and ready to return, pretty shaging disgusted right now…

Hate to hear that. Odd for Sweetwater. Seriously need to let your rep know that. I know it's not a $3k LP, but they still need to look at things before shipping.

Nice! I've played through a few at music stores (generally a go to head because its going to be closer to my ampeg heads). I always thought they sounded good. Better than expected actually. But the cab 60% or more of the tone in my mind. They look like great amps and even look good. I'd say your are correct on the mids being a little more pronounced than the Peavey with both flat. But that Peavey can do just about anything if you figure out the right combination of sliders and knobs.

It's very light and I like playing it, but it would bring in some serious cash. It was one of those years where the PUs were spaced differently (bridge PU closer to the bridge). I just have plenty of other things that sound better. But it did put the SIT powersteels on it and it's never sounded that good before.

It's absolutely beautiful, I'd say I like the color and finish better than the 21 NR's.

If it were a 7ender it would need a full length pocket shim, and I would just do it and be done.

Yeah, one great advantage to bolt on necks. My old Epi Embassy is set neck and you can only do so much. Fortunately all my neck throughs are perfect.
