I bought that album when it was new, still got it. WBCN Boston played most of the tunes from it. I'll play along to it on YouTube once in a while, he had some really good studio bassists on it, Bob Glaub for example.

A staple for our Thursday night parties when I was in college. Everyone liked him.
So do my 90 year old parents.
Ha! Actually had some work to do. And let it set in the box for a week before opening.
I've only got to play it about 20 minutes. I'll report more later or tomorrow. It's going to church with me in the morning. I will say it does look mint and had all the case candy. They put strap lock buttons so I can't help but believe someone used it once. But it shows no sign of that. Neck has a little too much relief for me, but not a problem. The D'Add steels are not bright, or the bass isn't overly bright.
Any suggestions/consensus on ideal PU hight? Currently both are approx 3/8 by eye from the strings.

I've only played on a Thunderbird once as a kid just starting out playing. The one I played was a little microphone but that wasn't a thing for me and it wasn't mine. If it was, it would have had a date with a pan of hot wax, I did it to this kind of a bass I had...
That thing would Howl like Allen Ginsberg at high volumes until I poured about a half a pound of wax in those pick up covers.

(Joke). They were very popular but I can’t recall any of their stuff. Where America was around the same time and popular but yeah I can remember a few of their songs.
Could just be a factor of AM radio play in Sydney at the time. Which was happily pumping out wonderful

The Mining Disaster was about a disaster in Wales (I think) and some of the lyrics like ‘don’t go talking too loud you’ll cause a landslide’ was real or based on a real part of that disaster/rescue. There were probably a few “Mr Jones’s” there at the time as well.
It’s certainly one of my favorite feeling Tbirds. Everything about it feels smooth and sleek and fast, and the finish has incredible depth. If I were blindfolded and someone handed me a bunch of different Tbirds one at a time just to hold and noodle on unplugged I’d choose this one every time.
Sound wise this bird is deep and rich, a subdued top end and a creamy smooth overall character. It’s not my first choice for aggressive forward in the mix work (that would be my Greco IV or VP) and it’s not my first choice for vintage thump (that would be my Greco II with vintage flats or 2015 bird with tapes). But it is the bird I’d grab first if I wanted to hold a solid back line or firm bass foundation for just about any classic, pop, prog rock setting.
Unfortunately for those in the market to buy one of these, the prices have bumped up to nearly insane levels on Reverb. So if you want the sound and look, consider buying a used Eppi CP for $600 and having it professionally refinished in gold nitro for another $600. That would be about half the cost of the current asking price on this model and would sound and look nearly identical.

That comes out in the AS's book. I'll never interact with him personally but as a musician/performer he is a pretty talented guy - I'd never hold that against him.
"Bridge over Troubled Water" that we all got tortured with on AM before elementary school (as well). Made going to prison (school) a reprieve. Give me some Seals and Crofts if you gotta do that folksy thing!As you should!
