How about DR Pure Blues strings, anyone tried those?

broke an E playing outdoors on a cold night…..meaty bark, pretty bright when new (not quite RS66)….didn’t care for what seemed like unusually high tension for rounds…

Luckily there are countless songs out there to like or not particularly like. As only one example most people dis The Bee Gees, one of my all-time favorite groups. Never stops me from enjoying their decades long contribution to pop music. Oh, and as much as it was similarly overplayed (as FB and StH) at the time - they made some of the best Disco music. Just that no-one yells "Stayin' Alive" at a live show I've ever attended...

I jammed Stayin Alive last weekend. I was surprised that somebody called it, and I had to listen to a bit to figure out what to play. It’s a funky bass line. Those are always fun.

Like 'em or not, it's always been obvious they could play. And who doesn't hit a wrong note? I mean besides Scott, and maybe his roady?

I just assume I haven't played with enough enthusiasm if I get a song perfectly.

I have come to appreciate a mild blending of a bridge pickup on Rickenbacker and Jazzy bases, but I’m not using them at all on my firebird bases. shaging hate P/J bases

I've not cared for most I've played. But this... I love this.

Pickups: 1 “New” Hot-Vintage P-Bass, 1 “New” Hot-Vintage Jazz. Whatever they are, they sound fantastic. But I do use the P more than the P/J. J PU is wound hotter and does make a difference.

I love Jive Talking. But just for the record Barry contends that they never did Disco. They were doing R n B.

I recently saw (or was reminded of) the Bee Gee’s walk in Redcliffe Qld
(just north of Brisbane). I’d actually like to go and have a look next time I get up that way.

They, Barry specifically I guess, certainly had a successful career. Can’t knock them. I recently bought their Greatest Hits cd after them not being my thing earlier. I must admit though being astonished by Staying Alive when it started getting radio play. Though I think I preferred Lido Shuffle.

Lido Shuffle is a great tune! I played with my former cover band, flatwounds and a pick was the recipe.

Bet that would look great with a blk/wt/blk pg - would emphasis the red more.

I think you're right. You seem to have an eye for that kind of thing and should consider some artistic expression to see if anything ever comes of it.
Now you have me seriously thinking about.

'70s Disco was all about 'uptown' Discotheques, horn sections, flashy cloths and... dancing. In some ways not that dissimilar to '80s New Wave with dance clubs, synths, flashy cloths/hair and... dancing.

Good observation. No doubt some of the reason I did dislike both. But would have preferred to listen to disco over New Wave because of better rhythms. Just never acquired a taste for NW. Way to processed sounding, and like disco (and most death metal), it all tends to sound basically the same to me.

Yes they did. I saw them in Stockholm in 2007. They had slightly rearranged some songs and with the Taurus pedals and more solo space for Andy they sounded like Rush at times (who of course sounded a bit like The Police in the eighties...).
My only complaint would be that if Sting could have at least tried a pick for some of the older songs. He was a terrific pick player back in the day.

And Stewart Copeland is a life force.

Apparently theirs was a volatile relationship behind the scenes. I read Andy Sumners book "One Train Later" - a sort of journal of his time with the Police. It's a good read if you are a Police fan.

Yes, I found them uninteresting. Not bad, just nothing to commend them. Seemed to have no personality.

I mostly agree - I liked a few bands/songs but it wasn't a period I was drawn to. I do like Talk Talk -

My Thunderbird likes RS66. Steel strings and Thunderbirds go together. But I use Pure Blues on my Jack Cassady; they sound great on that one.

They(he?)wrote some good songs with nice harmonies, etc. Learn a few Bread songs and a coupla disco numbers and you were set as a 70s/80s wedding band.
