Thunderbird Club

The WB's being US expatriates in the UK, I'm pretty sure clips like this were on British TV. (BBC) I have a friend who spent his art school "Jr year abroad" in the UK in 1974. He talked about seeing something there very similar to what became MTV in the US long before it aired here. Think about Ed Sullivan, The Smothers Brothers, Where the Action Is, Hullabaloo and (UK) Ready Steady Go. Also consider the Beatles making a"vid" (movie) of Strawberry Fields Forever"... these were all pre-MTV.

That original post motivated me to look up the tab and work on it. Still struggling a bit on timing.

Where did people see these videos back in the day? I mean, there were movies (The Beatles) and TV shows (The Monkees) but where would one have seen this?
I was a kid and I went to an event maybe late 60s very early 70s. It was a musical event that they advertise all these artists, like Hendrix, Stones, Beatles and so forth. It was in a theater and what it was, films of all those artist like MTV.
Stuff like your Walker Brothers and like this:

So, that's how I saw them.

:)

Procol Harum. Always loved that song. I started life on a Hammond organ but missed out on a B3.

A friend of mine got the home version of the B3 (B?) for free on Craigs List (I helped him retrieve it) - the defining sound of the '60s-early '70s.

Well, sure. But those were mini-concerts. I watched tons of those and if they showed videos like the one referenced, I can't recall them. And I mentioned the Beatles movies. Those and the Monkees tv shows were the closest things to what we think of as music videos as I can recall.

Cool! I never heard of any in Augusta (GA). Doesn't mean there weren't any...

Entwhistle for me.

He was one of my big ones too, I say McCartney because I was 10 in 1964 when the Beatles first broke and took over the radio, TV, newspapers and the country and heard 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and I just had to play one of those 'humming' guitars. Man, what a time that was, there has been nothing like it since, in fact that whole decade, they were a phenomenon that hasn't been repeated.

I'm fairly young, by wtvr standard that is, however, being around music since i was born (my dad being the musician with all his classic vinyls such as Bowie, T-Rex, Cheap Trick, etc), & even though i first saw the 1974-75 san Francisco KISS live show (on tv) when i was 3-4 years old, when i say Dee Dee Ramone play (through DVD documentary) when i was 6-7, that's who got me into diving into playing bass (& subsequently playing Precisions). His sheer energy was something to behold. After many years of practice from their first album to the Live shows, my wrist has gotten used to the fast downpicking without breaking a sweat or needing to stop after 4 live songs. I'm a punk; in roots, style & music. Other bassists have had some influence on my writing & playing too, but Dee Dee got me into actively playing bass.

I'm mostly a fingerstyle player although I also play with a pick and I was always fascinated and a little jealous at his strength with a pick. TBird1958 is also a very strong pickstyle player, check out her video from a day or two ago (maybe 300 pages back )

Replacement arrived today and the other one went away…

I just spent a few minutes setting her up with the stock strings.

and she’s near perfect, I’ll need to cut the A saddle a little deeper, and a little tweaking on the nut.

I am going to go lined fretless on her in the next few weeks.

finish on these is purely stunning. Green more so than the red.

here’s a crappy quick picture, new phone can’t figure out how to make the flash go off…
