Thunderbird Club

Asking prices on many used Thunderbirds continues to amuse me. Here’s a Goth on eBay listed as “Junk” with no guarantees that it even works for nearly $600…
Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV Bass Pitch Black JUNK | eBay

SMH - I think I paid just under $200 for the last used Goth I bought a couple of years ago, it was a great deal but the going rates were around $300 at the time. BTW - I’m in the market for a used Goth for my next project in fair to good shape if anyone has a lead on one at a reasonable price.

Make them a junk offer?

The stock 3 point should work just fine.
Warning: if you remove the strings and turn the bass over the bridge will most likely fall off the body and/or the saddles will fall out of the bridge. If that happens you’ll need to put the saddles back in the correct locations, they’re numbered. It’s a known issue for Tbird players and easy enough to avoid - just don’t flip the bird over without strings on it.

Yep, you got it.
Always use painters tape to hold things in place when I'm working on things. Just easier. Thanks for the heads up though.

The hum is there with or without anything connected. Volume and EQ makes no impact. It is constant with no apparent cycle. I’ll try to figure out how to post the audio clip.
I have terrible rf interference in my basement. I realized it when I spent 3 weeks trying to get the him out of my friends son's V. I had switched out the pickups for him and rewired it. Could not get rid of the hum. Rewired it 10 times. Swappe out pots 3 times. Gave it back to him with my head hung low. My friend was like I have no idea what you are talking about. This is dead silent. Even with a Furman I still get hum with certain things. It's frustrating. I recently had to swap a single coil Bart out of one of my Spectors for the same reason. Time for a Faraday cage.

Does an Epiphone Thunderbird count ?

That sounds like noise from the power line.

Sunn Concert Bass amp into Sunn 215m gives hum. Ampeg Micro VR into Sunn 215m no hum. Ampeg Micro VR into Ampeg 210av cabinet no hum.

I’ve never had the cabinet checked as couldn’t think of what could go wrong in the cabinet to cause hum. Now, no hum with a different head.
May be a problem in the power supply section of the amp. But it could be that you have dirty power and the other amps are better at filtering the noise from the power line.

But it’s free shipping from Japan! I got my current Goth in 2019 for around $200 - $250 (can’t recall exactly) as new old stock.

You bet.
Of course! I love the Epiphone Vintage Pro
Thunderbirds! Best bird built since the 60s! Even better in some ways. I love them so much I bought three!
^^This.^^
I have two VPs. Sound more like 60s Thunderbirds than modern Gibson Thunderbirds. Go figure.

I dig that Alpine White
Thanks man. And I the black VP you have. Just can't justify a third VP. Well, I can in my mind, but that's as far as it goes. All three VPs are and look fantastic. Closest thing you can get to a '60s without spending serious money on a boutique build. Try various strings. They do make a difference. I've got Roto 66s on the Burst and Boomers on the White. Some Flats even sound great on Thunderbirds.
