Thunderbird Club

One of my favorite albums from the mid 70s...but doesn't have that song.

Love that album, have it on vinyl, play it regularly esp, "Man on a Silver Mountain" and "Still I'm Sad", solid Gibson Non Reverse Thunderbird playing from Craig Gruber. I happened to see the precursor "Elf" open up a shown that also had ELO and Deep Purple with Glen Hughes.

Still have my LP from when it came out.

Got to use the NR with Roto 66 Nickels at practice. Sounded much better than other strings thus far by a lot. Throughly enjoyed hearing some massive Thunderbird tone tonight. Much more of what I was looking for all the way around. I might swap out some SS 66s from a VP to see how that goes. But if no other string works well, the Roto 66 NPSs sound great at home and at church. Sounded great with both PUs or just the bridge.

How do you like the feel of the neck as compared to your(IIRC)64? [asking for a friend]

Saw the eBay ads for the green and blue NR husks a few weeks ago and placed them in my watch folder hoping they’d drop a couple hundred bucks, but so far holding rock steady at $900.

Unless you already have parts on hand to fit it you’re gonna spend about $300 for some decent pups, $100 for some tuners, $200 for a bridge $50 for pots/caps/jack/knobs, $50 for strings, and $25 for strap locks. That’s a little over $700 in parts, for a total of $1600 spent but still having the fair potential for something major wrong with the neck or frets or truss (there’s a reason the bass was parted out). The $1499 Reverb demo bass is a much safer bet.

What kills me is I saw the eBay husk sellers listing for the pups out of those basses. He wanted $100 a pup. I was busy fixing dinner so didn’t have time to buy them until after dinner. After dinner I brought up the listing….. aaaaaand they were sold! Hate it when that happens. Somebody out there got a steal on some Gibby NR pups. Hope it was somebody here.

The Gibson "demo" is interesting/tempting. I wonder what it would cost to refinish it(not a fan of Green). I could then retire(sell?) the "67".
Ooh! It's Thursday, already.

If they sold for $100.00 apiece somebody got a steal, they're quite good to my ear.

Depends on your local guitar finishers... about $300 generally.
