Cool! I can see why you would want to replace the pickguard though. Something like this would look good:

Hmmm. I don't think you can lay claim to a fretboard radius. And I think the body shape they would claim goes back to their jazzmaster style. Recall that the NR Thunderbird was the subject of a C&D from Fender when it first came out.

TL;DR - everyone has had body styles. It is hardly worth arguing who copied whom.

You have this backwards re the Thunderbird, 7ender complained about the Reverse, the Non Reverse was the redesign.

He'd probably hit you over the head with his bass for saying that. His team is West Ham United.
Unless you're a Yank and then they are more tolerant. Walked into a sporting good store in Manchester and asked for a Chelsea kit (youngest daughter is named Chelsea and she played traveling futbol in those days). The sales person turned white and directed me to the backroom where he had some Chelsea kits. Found out later that Man U and Chelsea were playing in Manchester that weekend. Fortunately, the store was empty.

I setup a YouTube channel to compare a cheap Chinese bass that was turned into a husk and then had all the parts upgraded (still a sub $200 bass) to my Epi IV. I'd love to get some impressions about the tone difference (not the playing part :), I already know I suck and I have a t-shirt saying that). I think the Tbird has a more full sound and more thump at the real low end. Both basses have La Bella 750-N black tapewounds and were recorded with identical settings (neck pickup only and zero tone). Please excuse the "jazz notes" as all the recordings were one pass. Three different styles just so I could get a reference. I have no ear, so your thoughts would be greatly welcome.

I'm a bit confused on this one, but I'm generally confused.
The YT channels you posted show twice the same thing.

Help me out on this one, please.
Even if I'm beyond help.

Should be 2 of each song. One with a Glarry Burning Fire and one with the Thunderbird. 6 total videos for 3 different songs. At least that's what I see when I go to that link.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story...

;):D

I think I got the facts of the case right - design, C&D, redesign. Specifics is what outside counsel is for.

Could I interest you in a Watermelon, Good Sir?

First of all, nice playing!

As for the bass tones, I listened to the first 30 seconds of each clip on my iPad (headphones or an external speaker would have been a better choice on my end but I was away from the house at the time). To be honest, I didn’t hear any significant difference between the two basses with the exception of Give Me Some Lovin where the non Tbird sounded a bit fainter. Not sure if it was a volume difference between the two or if the Bird just came through the mix more.

I’m no Expert, but I’ve been told that YouTube does some serious file compression making it more difficult to hear the difference between compared notes. You might want to research that to see if it’s true or determine if it impacts what you’re doing.

Excellent book!

If mic'ed what mic you prefer or what the soundmen offer for you? On stage from the port?
Have you used it in studio too?
I have a DI on the board. Problem solved. I haven't recorded with it. If I did, probably a kick drum mic like a D12 or D112 or whatever those are called. Maybe a stout ribbon. I haven't thought about it. Recording is another time I go DI.

That is a great looking finish. The bass doesn't do it for me.

Same here.
Call me square when it comes to Fender, but i'm for the early 60's P's and J's.
And I'll always take a lightweight 68-73 Jbass.

They should just stick to what they know and do it good.

Rant over over on that one.
