Thunderbird Club

I've actually not been able to find any quite like the ones I used to use, the music store guys were the ones calling them "jazz picks". Some are close, but ...

I have a felt pick for my Uke but so far I prefer leather. (Ahem?)

Of the leather picks I’ve tried my favourite is a thin one with a solid backing. So I can get the attack on the downstroke using the backing, but the upstroke gets the softer side. ( or vice versa I guess).

Hope that makes sense.

Why do singers lip synching over exaggerate their mouth movements? The mic they're holding isn't on, just actually sing the effing song and look natural.:banghead: (end rant)

Last week I decided to buy myself a non-reverse, short scale six string T-bird alike.

Named her "Misty" after her Burgundy mist finish. I'm playing her all the time now.

I think I'm going to sue you because that looks too much like a Gibson Thunderbird.

Not Andertons, but VP is present (I guess ).

The E string on the Tbird Pro sounded deader than a door nail.
Sadly, Still no VP in the mix.

An interesting fact that many might not know - the reason Gibson released the NR Tbird was because Fender threatened to….

…. Just kidding! I know how much that perpetuated falsehood gets under your skin.:D
If it wasn’t for your history correction I’d still be thinking Gibson caved to Fender.

My most "angry piano" tone I've ever recorded ('07) using my Kubicki Ex-Factor through an SWR Goliath/400s tube pre-amp head mic'd. (this is a one take improv trio recording using real-time loopers)

My Fender/Kubicki 9v pre assisted Saudersbird comes close... hummm, something tells me there is something in common...

tres excellent! love the pedal pattern on the second tune….:thumbsup:

Nice playing on both!
Impossible to hold still on that second song, I bet it gets butts out of the seats and feet on the dance floor!
As for the first song, your bass sound was very reminiscent of another great bass player on a classic prog song…

:) Thanks! "As for the first song, your bass sound was very reminiscent of another great bass player on a classic prog song…." (fixed it ) Gotta say, as much as I was only passively a fan of Yes and CS at the time - I later learned to admire and respect his immense talents. Check out this performance as leader... and having Bill Bruford on drums can't hurt...

I just happened to stumble across the article debunking it. I never believed the myth - it just didn't make sense. :wacky: The reality is much more predictable and believable.

Yes!

.....but a bit older, one of the Korean ones:

:)

The blue/white one I have is bigger than a standard pick - 1 3/4"x 1"x 1/4". Actually a very controllable size/stiffness for articulation. The red one is bigger/mushier - maybe better for an upright...

Sounds like your blue one is pretty similar to the (gray) ones I used to get long enough ago that they'd probably be "vintage" now :facepalm:

I just scanned eBay for “vintage felt bass-guitar pick” … nothing like mine. Before eBay, it was all so much more personal back then - you'd walk into a guitar shop and sift through picks at the counter. Oh well...

Yeah, that's how I got my felt picks originally. The guy at the counter suggested them, he was the one what called them jazz picks.
Last I heard that place went out of business a few years ago, after several decades of being the best music store in the area :crying:

Even places like Guitar Center now, you just buy the little packet off the hanger, and hope they're what you want  , so really there's no point in not buying them online :rollno:

Especially with CA fuel prices what they are now.....not gonna spend $20+ worth of fuel to go get a couple of bucks worth of picks :meh:

Picks are made from oil as well, so over a couple of months it will even out. The picks will go up in price enough that you don't mind driving for them anymore...

C'mon uncle Gbass, tell us the story again!
