Thunderbird Club

what's wrong with the packaging?
First is the cardboard box. Waste of materials, but whatever. Inside are two plastic packs. One with the 1st and 3rd string and the other with the 2nd and 4th.

I've seen all sorts of interesting methods for differentiating the strings, but this is just annoying. And I thought La Bella's beads were weird.

This turned up on Facebook. Rex Brown posted it. In his post he said July 12th is getting close. Possible release date??

Give it 53 years, it'll look just like mine.
My SG guitar looks like it's 53 years old. It's a 2005, but it's pounded. The finish is really thin, unpolished nitro that has faded to an odd dark pink. It doesn't seem like the finish is thick enough to check. There's all kinds of dents, but the finish hasn't worn through anywhere. The pickguard sure is beat up.

I wonder if a bridge cover would work on it. It has the usual Gibson guitar two piece tune-o-matic bridge. It looks fine. Covers add chrome and are better.

yeah and seems like he favored Gibsons….used to seeing him with a Ripper…don’t think I’ve ever seen him with an FSO…. seen him with a Spector as well…

He played a P bass a lot during their first couple of years but then gradually switched over to Gibsons. Here's a couple of old videos (1969 and 1970). I do remember seeing him with Rippers a lot. Tanglewood is about 50 miles from where I grew up in Mass.

With certain of my Birds these are really THE CHOICE strings to use, they have a strong mid presence that works quite well on some of my Birds. I didn't care for them on my '76s as that pickup design just makes so much Bass and lo mid that I lost definition.

I have them on my '89, Jackson and Lull IIRC, they're fantastic on the '89. They were way too much for the Greco though, again the pickup on that bass produces so much bass and lo mid in addition to being very hot that the combination was just too much.

I appreciate this info. Saves me from wasting a set on my Bicentennial and Greco. I can use them on another Bird that will benefit from the SIT strings.

I've already played one;)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!!
