Thunderbird Club

Hello all - long time reader, first time poster (on this thread anyways). Anyways, I would like to humbly submit my application to join this elite club. It’s just an Epi IV (bolt on) with Hipshot Tuners but it is new to me. I played it at band rehearsal the other night and fell in love with how it sounded in the context of my band. Definitely a gateway drug - I’m hooked, and want to save up for the Vintage Pro or a Gibson eventually.

Looks just like mine. It was my first choice player until I got a CP. Definitely a tone difference in the pickups. Still a great axe.

Welcome. Rock it hard. I love Social D.

I've seen the Seymour offering for years, but have read very little about it in way of review or how it sounds. Looking at the spec sheet, the neck is wound to 12.3k, which seems high compared to a standard 'Bird neck, which sits in the 7-8k range typically. Does this hotter winding put it closer to the Greco pickup in terms of sound, or have little impact overall? Tonally how does it compare to say the 760 or Greco pickup/60s style bird pickups?

I'm rather inclined to go with Novak as well, given his reputation and willingness to make tweaks for the customer. I'm really just going for "60s bird", though probably more of the 63 style for the 4001 neck pickup rather than a later, hotter 66+ version. The modern TB+ pickups have always felt rather lifeless and dampened to me, so I don't think the big studs having more mud would be something I'd go for, but I am interested in the newer 2021+ Gibson pickups from the NR birds.

My friend/tech just had his Greco Bird pickup re-wound by Novak and he highly recommends his work. He says the rewound pickup is just as aggressive as it was before it went bad.

I know nothing about them, but have seen a few people who have had old MM amps and love them. I like the looks of that one and would but it--after asking Chuck if they are problems. Seems like a good deal to an ignorant person like me, assuming it fires up.

EDIT: Congrats! I bet it will be a keeper!

Well given that this is my last week of freedom before two weeks of jury duty then the start of school, probably I'd better polish off the outdoor projects, but yes, priorities....
Here's the deal, go in and start asking in an excited voice if you all can give someone the death penalty. Or if on a case. whisper loudly "He sure looks guilty to me." The judge may not be impressed and may threaten to fine you. At which point you ask if you could just have jail time until your time is up. Guaranteed you won't be seated.

(Maybe not everything here is the best advice.)

Welcome home! If you were chosen by a Thunderbird, it's just the beginning.
