Thunderbird Club

When I first got that bass, I didn't love the color, but bought it because Thunderbirds were very hard to find in Seattle. As I played it, it sweat stained from my wrist and I didn't like that either! Now that it's turned piss yellow ( Not usually my fave color BTW ) I somehow like it - go figure

I remember you telling us about that at our gathering.
Sweet rig.

But he really wants a Gibson SG lol, he's switching to short scale due to hand pain. He bought the Fallout because it's road worthy and it's pink, did I mention that it's pink?
The SG will certainly sound very different. The Fallout looks great. I believe that one was pink or some such light red color.;) I've never seen a pink SG, so he may have to love the G&L for a while.

Maybe the pic doesn't represent the color well, but my eliminated liquid doesn't look a thing like that color. It would kind of freak me out if it did! Looks to be a nice yellowed white here.

You're not drinking enough! :woot:

I like yellow basses, I have an antique white Jazz that's actually yellow and had a white Ric years ago that turned yellow, it was kind of blotchy though as it turned yellow unevenly.

Since I own a couple........

Were I looking at middle of the road priced Thunderbirds my choices would be these three and I'm listing the in order of my preference.

'88-2000 Gibson, shallow neck pitch, fantastic slim neck (much like my '64) great players. Don't be afraid to modify them, this one's had all of it's hardware changed out, pickups are from Mike Lull, the first Thunderbird repro pickup on the market.

Any Greco Thunderbird. These things will tear your face off...........Easily the best non Gibson Thunderbird at any price, a II (single pickup) is really the one to find.

Epiphone Vintage Pro, or '60s Thunderbird, a nice Bird at a great price, the neck is a bit bigger than a Gibson and the pickups are a little tame compared to the Greco, still a really good Bird.

All good choices!
Especially the Greco.

Yo, T-Bird Club Members. The great Gibson Victory needs to call in a marker here and get some advice. Looking to get your opinions as to what would be a good reasonably price player and investment piece. Somewhere between bargain basement, and the Holy Grail. All comments are welcome. Thanks!

personally I recommend the 2015. There are also some studio versions from Gibson that pop up with set necks.

if you go import the upper end epiphone is Frankly very good and a deal and schecter offers the ‘ultra’ bass which is a thinly veiled thunderbird and it was the best budget bass I’ve ever owned $750 though at the time.

that was before epiphone got a revamp. But I’d ask for 25% off one of those two and feel pretty good about it.

And no love for the discontinued CP :crying:
I stuck to Gibson recommendations because I thought that’s what @Gibson Victory was asking for. If I were to go outside of Gibson my first three choices in order of preference would be…
Greco II or IV 1990 or older.
Epiphone VP (the older the better)
Epiphone CP any year

It was a side swipe at our Queen. Mentioned the VP and hurt my CP's feelings ;)
