Thunderbird Club

Today is my 38th anniversary with the current wife (she hates it when I say current). She’s obviously a keeper and very supportive of my many expensive habits (as I am of hers). Poopsi and I at a recent cattle branding…

She’s a Flamenco guitar fan, so she’s asked me to start working on bass accompaniment for that. Definitely different, but fun to play.
Congratulations!

I’ve been a good boy in 2022. Only spent about $200 on new bass purchases this year. The fanned fret was a trade and the BlingBird was all paid for in 2021. I’ve given wifeypoo a Christmas list. Time will tell if she thinks I’ve been a good boy also.
I tried a D Roc at L&M last night (in sparkly green!). Two things to note:
Maybe I am a little smarter than I think; although not easy, I managed on fanned frets just fine.
The feel of the strings is great. The tension seems quite low compared to 45-105 on a Thunderbird. No trouble putting enough pressure with my recovering hand compared to a 105 E string.

Congratulations!

I’ll avoid saying mine plays like butter, but I will say it darn near plays itself. Don’t know if it’s the string tension or the fanned frets or just the setup - but whatever it is sure works good.

Happy Anniversary @GBassNorth !!!
Thanks! We’re enjoying a day at the beach down here in Malibu.

Odd detail I noticed - on the T-bird IV the guy (his tech?) is holding... the black plastic bridge-cover spacers are screwed into place, w/o the cover. Never seen anyone do that before. I have those original bridge & pu cover spacers for my '64 but never considered screwing them in like that. Maybe used as finger rests?
