Agreed re EH Geo. I like my Big Muff Pi to get some truly gritty dirt. And their stuff is well made and reasonably priced.
To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of the typical Ric look. However, I love that pink Hello Kitty Ric of yours! To me that is exactly what that bass needed, something light hearted and fun to offset the stodgy designed by committee look the stock ones have. Your Kitty masterpiece, a copy of Lemmy’s Oak Leaf, and that more rounded semi hollow body from the 1960’s are the only ones I’d ever consider rocking.
That’s good to know it’s on tap with the right strings if I need it. Mine came with the stock rounds, but I didn’t even leave them on for one day before I switched to the GHS Precision Flats so I don’t recall how the rounds sound. The GHS strings pretty much muffled any character the pups had. I just switched to EBCF and they do in fact sound great on the 21 NR. Not much grind, but that wasn’t expected with these strings. With the limited experience I have on this bass so far I’d still say the pups are closer to TB+ in sound than VP’s, and that’s not a bad thing at all. I have the VP sound covered with my ebony VP and I’d like to start putting less miles on the Anniversary Bird. The NR does that perfectly, vey very happy with the bass.
The Ric group does strike me as purists, and that ok as long as they make that clear up front. However, I really enjoy the company in this club, that focuses on getting the most for the Tbird community by welcoming every sort of thunderbird related bass with open arms. The Tbird diversity in this club is astounding and really does open the discussions to what’s available out there from a purchase, mod, upgrade, tribute, economy, collector… perspective.
It would be cool to have a sticky for this club listing every different type of Tbird shaped object in the club along with some pics. We have Spector, Hamer, Jackson, Greco, Orville, Lull, Epiphone, Gibson, Homemade, Warmoth, and countless others.
That decision no doubt wins you the @Gaolee seal of approval.So TBird fellows; I'm thinking of keeping, Burgundyh Mist heavy relic from my friend

I didn’t know you had a Goth. Next time you come over, bring it with you to play along side my Capped Goth so you can see the difference a $5 Cap job makes on that bass, night and day to my ears.

Yeah. It’s hard to keep track of what each of us have. I try to keep the information page of my profile updated so I have it all in one place. I keep meaning to add string type on each bass as a way to keep track of that too.
That Goth is the NOS I got when some friends bought a music store, now called Bakersfield Sound Company. I don’t recall exactly what I paid, but it was $250 or less three or four years ago. It had been on the wall there for something like eight years and they liquidated everything that came with their purchase.
When I got the Blackbird, it came with Roto 77s, which sound really good on it. So I switched out the EBCFs on the Goth and 86ed the Hipshot bridge which just refused to dial in on that bass. I solved the intonation problem with different length screws and springs from Hipshot. But I was never happy with the action. I tried different width shims and nothing really worked. So the Goth is back to stock with the three point and Superbrights. Don’t need another Thunderbird with flats. The three point is as low as it’ll go, but the action is now an acceptable 4/64ths without buzzing or clank. A Babicz will get the action lower, but I’m done messing around with it. I just want it to be a nice player, which it is.

Reverend RumbleFish 5L (purchased from Talkbass legend Chef years ago, RIP ). They had some really unique Formica finishes back in the day before they reimagined their product lines. This one is one of only four they made with the “Blackwood” finish. It’s a 35” scale 5 string and plays wonderfully (Jazz pups in non traditional Jazz locations can sound sweet).

They wanted to turn me in to the Rick police for modding with EMG’s on an 18 volt platform.
Don’t even know what they would say about a non stock Hipshot drop d tuner or a much improved non stock bridge.
My guitars are tools..not a slim Jim wrapped in plastic that will last 20 years un touched
