Thunderbird Club

I am way behind. Sometimes, life gets busy...

So, fill in as needed:
Ahem
Ahem!
I have a melon for that
Would you like some bad advice?
Don't make me post the melon picture...
I know her...

but the reason today for posting. Look what I saw in my local L&M today! C$99 for the head and C$99 for the cab!

Hope all is well.

I don't recall seeing one of those heads--I love that cab! I think Kara should hop in that big truck of her's and get both.

I'm going crazy looking at all those options! Transparent green over curly maple, with ivory binding has always been a personal interest to me.

So many great options just that that site. There was a Beautiful metallic Orange like one of V's that's fantastic. But I like this and think the length of a Thunderbird would make this finish look even better. Doesn't look good expanded to fit here. I don't claim to have taste. I just like what I like.

But you have the Spector that looks a little like this.

I’ve always thought the flag paint job would look perfect on a Tbird, especially the reverse body, which is kinda flag shaped. That Buck Owens one on the last page of the website would look cool as well.

Not personally crazy about the 'decay' finishes. I like submerged texture, just not that particular texture.

Etched silver-leaf with vintage/aged mint halo (Pat Wilkins) - Mermen/Joe Satriani bass-player Alan Whitman & me from years ago.

...another PW finish - over variegated orange/gold leaf.

Pat again - variegated black-leaf with fine gold dusting - (hard to depict in pics - very subtle unless in a certain light source when it becomes magical)

Marty Bell sparkle finish - I asked for "eggplant sparkle" - he nailed it. (black cherry in this lighting)

Natural sunlight - no post pic manipulation.

variegated orange-gold leaf - Pat's clear-coat -

Our member@ PWV #15 has a 7enderbird made from a '76 Gibson painted just this way.

Good evening and happy Halloween to my Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. Just dropping in to say I had a great time over the weekend. Trip over the mountains to see a Yes concert with my old roommate. They played for just shy of two and a half hours at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. They were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of Close to the Edge. Steve Howe, Billy Sherwood and the rest tore it up! They opened with a tribute to Alan White, who recently passed away. The first set was a variety of older and newer songs, including a fabulous rendition of Heart of the Sunrise. The second set included the complete album a few classics as well. Chris Squire was definitely one of a kind, but Billy Sherwood is also an amazing bass player. He was all over the neck and never slowed down. I had seen Yes three times before, but never from the 8th row in a theater. They played well and sounded good, I recommend catching them if they play near you.
Cheers!
Sounds like a good time. I’ve seen Yes more then forty times since ‘74. I’ve seen this iteration once. They’re great and I like it that Howe keeps the music alive. If only Anderson was with them…

All awesome finishes! I’ve drooled over that Orange Gold Leaf job many times.

I’ve used Pat Wilkins a few times in the past and have always been very pleased with his work. Same for Marty Bell, who is like the king of glitter finishes. I think I read somewhere that Marty unfortunately is no longer in the business. That’s the reason I’ve decided to give Guitar Paint Guys a try on this build. I’m looking to expand my experience with different finishers so I have more choices for future builds.

Speaking of which, I do have you https://www.gildaxe.com/examples and LightFX/Holoflash Paint jobs — Mean Street Guitars on my short list of finishers for some future builds. Probably a year or more out. I hope to find a house in my up coming move that has room for a fabrication shop so I can get back into building unique guitars and basses. No desire or patience to do finishing work, especially when others can do it so much better.

I'd love to have one of those cabs! Especially at that price......

Did you buy your NR brand new?
No. I bought the 67 NR in 73. It came with the OHSC, which eventually 'died'. Attempted repairs didn't work out, so I've gone through a few replacements-a softside keyboard case(unwieldy PITA), that gig bag(w/o padding I didn't trust it), and the Coffin case(OK, but unwieldy, kinda heavy, and PITA to stash at a gig). No 'off-the-shelf' case is long enuff-has to be 51+" inside length.
