He was a guitarist who played bass very well. He once said he tried to emulate what Leon had been doing (but no doubt added his out touch), and I'm thinking he played a Ric. Seems like I saw a pic once. Leon was playing one about that time and a first gen Pbass.

Oh, heck, just solder it and see what happens. Make sure you are standing in a bathtub full of water when you turn it on, though. Gotta have good grounding.

I actually don't think so. You need to get the electrical values correct, but the size of components has decreased. The enormous capacitors in an old ACC amp can be a lot smaller using modern components. I don't think there's much difference as far as sound is concerned.

Kara, you could certainly resolder, but electrolytics that old - especially if they've been sitting unused, are likely to either already be bad or let go very soon after you start playing whatever they're in. If it were collectable and I wanted to preserve the look, I'd gut the can and put new caps inside it (with an annotation as to that so no one could claim deceit later).

Nobody looks inside an old ACC amp. They listen to 'em and play 'em and flog 'em. That's what they are for. I haven't run across anybody who is anal about them like they often are about an old Fender amp or Silvertone amp. Beats me why anybody would care, since it's the sound that's important. Well, and they look the part. I am shallow.

It depends on whether the seal was trying to commute or not. If it was unreliable, the seal would be late for work.

My black one has been kinda sorta for sale for a while, but I'm not really trying very hard to sell it. Too much else going on and it's not in the way. Who knows. I might warm to it eventually.

You really can’t go wrong with a VP of any year. I haven’t seen any CPs for sale in the last couple of weeks. If you’re in the market for a bass in the $1200ish range you might be able to find a vintage Greco Tbird, absolutely a killer bass that will run circles around most Gibson Tbirds and will devour a P bass but may have a slightly thicker neck than your Gibson.

Thanks. I’m excited. The only one I played at Veronica’s that I like better was the 64(?) Gibson.
