Very nice! Any way to describe the Bartolinis compared to the stock TB+?
Congratulations! That sounds like a lot of fun. I had to put in a lot of work for my current band (over a year now) to get up to speed, but it's been so worth it.Well, as they say in my native language "The blood flows, where it can't go" and I grew increasingly restless and uneasy with my Americana band and wanted to go back to playing punk rock.
And as luck would have it, a band who I was familiar with had an opening.
This is Lei Va Kaalhei, who make punk rock in the Dialect of the Dutch city of Kerkrade. I'll be replacing the guy with the mushroom hat and Gretsch guitar.
Two weeks ago I had my audition and the others were pleasantly surprised at how quickly I took up the songs, making good use of my musical ear.
For that Audition I brought along my Line6 POD and the others said "Leave that thing at home and bring your amp next time, you'll be using it a LOT next year." I got the set list and an agenda, showing how many shows they've got lined up. I'm going to have to work my butt off.
The best thing about this, I ONLY need to play guitar, no lead vocals.

My trusty Washburn at the Lei Va Kaalhei rehearsal space, today I also did my first publicity shots with those guys and our first performance shall be on January the sixth.
As for the other band, I got one rehearsal cancellation after another for the last couple of weeks, due to the Holiday season and all. TBH, I wouldn't care if we decide to split up, Lei Va Kaalhei is so much easier to work with.
Love the finish - kind of a grey ghost sparkle!
I’m sure it sounds good with the barts. The set I put in my FrankenGoth made it really sing, very crisp clear notes, almost baritone guitar territory.

I’m playing a toy drive gig. Time to play some rock:
I needed something different tonight so after practicing some songs we play and figuring out parts for a couple of things, I played along to the first half of pink Floyd’s “Meddle”, then with “Echoes” from Live at Pompeii. The Greco works GREAT with older style Pink Floyd. Pulled me right out of my rut, too.
Live at Pompeii is sooooooo good.
It really is! It's my favorite Pink Floyd live recording that I've heard.
I gotta say, as much as I love my EBCFs, when you get into inner/outer space Pink Floyd territory, rounds are exactly what you need to play what fits.

Well, there isn't a lotta call for a 77 y/o singing bassist around here and I'd rather be able to play out occasionally than sit at home with my thumb up my...nose. I'm used to it. Not that it doesn't bug me.

That's so cool! How do you plan to dress? (Pics, please!)
I have a set in my FrankenGoth along with an Aguilar OBP2 preamp. If I set the onboard preamp flat on both bass and treble I get exceptionally crisp clear piano like notes (and that’s with La Bella Black Tapes). Plenty of bass and treble and a nicely balanced midrange. Not nearly as Woolley as the TB+ pups, more hifi.
If I boost the bass the Tbird gets very dark very quick and it puts out an incredible amount of earth shaking lows, much more than my Greco even, but that’s probably more a function of the preamp than the pickups. If I boost the treble it gets brighter and louder but never harsh or unusable. I normally run the bass with a very slight bass boost and flat on the treble.
Interestingly, most all of my Tbirds overlap each other to a degree in tone, some darker, some brighter, some more mid focused but on most of them I can find a setting that will very closely duplicate the sound of one of the other birds. Not this one. I think the FrankenGoth goes lower, and higher than any of my other birds, and it’s an all around cleaner more defined hifi sound. How much of that is the pickups, and how much is the preamp I don’t know. Because of the clear ringing notes I do think it would be an excellent bass to use in conjunction with pedals or for recording and chord or harmonics work. It’s not the bass I reach for if I’m playing classic rock, but if I’m playing along with piano or acoustic guitar music it’s my go to bass.

I have a Greco II with flats that sounds phenomenal, but if I’m playing classic prog rock I turn to my Greco IV with boomers.
I usually listen and follow the drummer whenever I decide to do fills* etc. with him. Of course he listens to me too, or at least I hope so.
*Needless to say I listen to him (and everybody in the band) when playing straight too.
