Thunderbird Club

Missa on* "shoddy playing"?
* I had to look it up and my keyboard doesn't do the 2 dots over the "a".

My keyböärd döes. :D
And thanks. But I think I'd be dead after two songs on a Maiden tribute gig if I didn't start practicing right now. And it's not that one needs force, it's actually pretty light touch he (Steve Harris) uses. And the three finger thing is a myth too, the third is just along for the ride.

BTW, has anybody seen a pic of Harris playing a T-Bird? He used to play a '76-'79 model for a while during the early years. Pete Way fan. The bass went but the spandex trousers stayed.

I made some clips to my friend to showcase the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass compressor. I also played this Iron Maiden lick. When I started I played along Maiden albums a lot. "Prisoner" was a big fav but "Number Of The Beast" too and I still remember this part.
The compressor does not mask shoddy playing but definitely keeps the sound more cohesive when playing stuff like this. First off, then on.
Comp on. Sounds good, good playing.

Unbelievably, I've been recently discovering how easy it is to actually play the bass. For years, years I say, I bore down hard to play, the fiercer the line the worse I dug in. To the point I have done some damage that I have to look after now- though to be fair, I did the same with physical labor.
I'm changing both of those ideas now, finally. I have always had a hard head...

I'm in a stoner/doom/riff-rock band lately, and discovering how easy it is to lay it onto the frets... relaxing instead of tensing up, understanding that I'm already able and don't need to "develop" what I am... Just play the thing. Enjoy what you discover, keep it in the fun zone, nothing to prove. It is liberating.

Affirmative. Short for Guitar Center. Though me being in Montreal Canada, ive never entered one (as they're located only in the States afaik).

Someone can correct me, if theres another designation for GC.
GC can mean a number of things, but here I’ve only seen it in reference to Guitar Center.

Gratefully content,
General Custer

A little something to help with the GAS....
If you happen to come to Seattle, the welcome mat is out and we could crank it up a bit.

I will attest to V having one h3ll of a welcome mat!

Pretty sure we have seen both pics and video here

I bought it! Thank you!!!
Some things to think about while you're waiting. The TB+ pickups like to be as close to the strings as possible. So depending on where they're set when you get it, don't be afraid to raise them up. And try starting with the neck pickup volume on full and the bridge rolled off a bit. And depending on your experience with a Thunderbird, keep in mind that amp EQ will be different than a Fender type bass. Start with everything flat and go from there.

IME, GC's are a crapshoot. I've been in some and been totally ignored and others where the staff is helpful.
Spot on!
Plus I’ll add, if you’re a guitar player their new instrument selection is pretty good. However, if you’re a bass player, their new bass selection is dismal at best. That said, outside of Reverb and EBay, nobody has a better used gear selection and few can match their return policy.

Good advice. And....SIT Power Steels (and LaBella Black Nylons) are a great match.

The one on PieIX ? It is dark, truedat. The other 2 are quite different in vibe, IMO. Working at Steve's gotta be pretty cool though :). I'm pretty sure we met, but not clear about the purchase.

Yup Pie-IX is dark, & though it's not too far from where i live, it feels out of the way. I've a friend who works there & he enjoys it, but yeah he agrees its pretty dark & secluded opposed to other locations.

I've worked at Steve's back from 2016-2019 as a sales clerk, we've most likely met at some point in time (if I recall correctly, you came in to try one of those Logical Ric copy basses?).

Yes, that's the one :).
I remember you being very patient in letting me try it, I was also trying out a real Ric. Ended up picking the Logical, mostly because the neck felt better to me and it wasn't going to be a main player anyway. I loved that bass, kept it for about a year and ended up flipping it for God knows what. I live in the Lower Laurentians, so downtown is a bit of a ways out, but who knows, I might drop in, I still get the Steve's newsletter.
