Thunderbird Club

LOL - that’s the best before and after bass demo I’ve ever heard! The difference is very subtle, there’s definitely something more going on with the tug bar that I can’t quite describe, but I love the new sound. I have a tug bar that I haven’t installed yet, this inspires me to follow your lead!
But you might need to try various locations for the tug bar. Everything adds up to something. I think you should come up with a tug bar jig for testing.:smug: You would also have a cool song title to go with it. Who can't dance to "The Tug Bar Jig?" Bootie shaker and boot scooter if there ever was one.

Andy Irvine has a pretty good play around on an Epi VP - 20 minutes or so.
He says he hasn't been a T-Bird/Gibson guy but apparently he loves it already and he only just got it. The guy has a lot of basses.

Thanks for posting!
Andy is a great player (he’s aged a bit since I last saw him, but haven’t we all) and he normally does excellent honest reviews. This one is probably the most thorough Eppi VP/60’s demo I’ve seen. He flogged the snot out of that thing for 20 minutes, picking/plucking/strumming/slapping/muting from the bridge to the neck.

In the video he said he’s only had the bass for about an hour but he loves it and thinks is a phenomenal bass for the price. I agree, by far the best new bass value out there in the sub $1000 category and a no brainer on the used market. I’ve had mine for a few years now and still haven’t found anything that beats it in its price point.

I wonder...... would the tone difference be greater or lesser depending on whether it is used, or just installed & un-used?

I have a case queen tugbar, an uninstalled prototype meant for the first pre-production Thunderbird. So long as the case is in the same room as its instrument, the instrument sounds incrementally better. I hadn't planned on selling it, but might be convinced to trade it for a 1963 Thunderbird.

I would think the tug bar would sound fuller if installed and unused, that’s how I plan to use mine if installed. That way it is free to resonate with the rest of the bass. If used, I suspect it would be a lot like palm muting the strings, your fingers on the tug bar would in essence mute the effect.

This Friday nights set lists for Bond Girl - 2 sets, 23 songs, 10 Bond songs, 3 'spy' songs, 2 full instrumentals/two partial instruments, one Doors song, one Bowie song and one new drummer.

Weather sez' clear that day... 'Bomb Cyclone'-fueled atmospheric river arrives later today... :bag:
