Thunderbird Club

thanks for the feedback, sounds like it’s still better than over here….I remember a time when we belonged to the union and folks could pay a mortgage from just playing music. I was too young (and still in school) to engage full time like that. I can also say that the only time I could make a living from playing was when living in Europe. Great times, one could truly fully engage since it was one’s full time activity. This included hanging out with other musicians, going to shows etc.
Seems like these days, unless you play in a big act, it’s a just a (sometimes) paid hobby over here…..LONG LIVE LIVE MUSIC…
Bumper stickers should be issued!

I stopped listening after Beck, Bogert and Appice, the first 'fusion' album he did was pretty good but eh....I appreciate his later stuff but not something I'd really listen to unless it was on the radio.
Same. That makes me feel better in that I'm not alone. Progressing is entirely subjective. Now you're in bad company.

Talk about a good name for a band....

Strohs, fire brewed smoooooth.
I can take the heat, but I loved Strohs--in the 70s and early 80s. Can't say about anything later than that. First beer I ever had. It was love at first taste. I also loved Heineken before if was cool to drink designer beer. It was for special occasions. Pricey stuff back then.

Hitting the kick like that is a challenge to get solid. It might be a plastic beater hitting tight heads as opposed to triggered. It is processed for sure, and I can live without that.

After I wrote that I started thinking it was way too much of a blanket statement anyway, for example I like a lot of Motorhead's stuff which was done in the 80's, but Motorhead wasn't produced like 80's pop either.

Same LP - different song. A very popular song, but just too 'easy listening' for my ears.

I’ve covered Dreams. Heard on the radio a million times, but upon sitting down and actually listening to the bass, I discovered John McVie had recorded a very tasty bass part. It’s mostly a vamp with one lick, and nicely done.
It’s another example of a song I wouldn’t voluntarily listen to (not a fan of Stevie Nicks’ voice), but will happily play.

In the late 1970’s I was working in a liquor store while in high school and college. Got great discounts on everything in the store, so when it came time to buy beer for a party it was mostly Heineken and Becks. Everyone else was bringing Coors and Bud with an occasional splurge on Schlitz. The rot gut beer we sold at the time was Buffalo Beer and only came in bottles in a 24 pack box, horrid stuff, half the price of Coors.

My friend saw Jeff Beck Group in the very first big festival in Finland called "Ruisrock" in 1971. He told that they watched the band assemble on stage. "Why Jeff went behind the drums?" "There's another Jeff on guitar now!"

Show

Cozy Powell and Jeff Beck did look a lot alike then.

That was a great kick-ass band! :bassist: If I were to recommend one JB song to someone who was unaware of him - this is it.

I’m glad you posted that. I have a gig coming up with both my bands and People get Ready would probably sound really good with Em singing.

It's been successfully covered by many bands/artists over the years. Here's another - (Tim Bogert on the Fender bass) Maybe the first version I heard in '68. Gotta' love how over-the-top this version is!
