Those saddles look like they don’t have string grooves filed in them. I have a bass or two like that but have always wondered if they would benefit from a groove in the saddle. Seems like intonation might improve.

Don’t get me wrong, on a vintage bird that already sounds killer, I wouldn’t mess with it.
 
NO no - if anything I did (based on my addendum) - I get that he was totally into it and his audience including you 'got' that. Where would we be without a "bass face"? :D (not quite a smile... but delivers the appropriate emotion!) I was just making the point of the contrary.

Yes, Miles Davis. I understand - I was quoting Miles reflecting on his life and the black artists that preceded him. Apparently it's why early in Miles' ascension, he would face his musicians and not the audience when performing. James Brown used to play to only black audiences. Both were making personal statements at a time when that was needed.


Miles said he faced a lot of racism back in ol' St Louie when he was young but he also said at times that his facing the band instead of the audience had nothing to do with racism, maybe a little of both?
