Baby, it's cold outside. And inside, but better now that I managed to get hold of some firewood that wasn't ridiculously expensive. (Not talking about the 'bird, of course).

Replacing the stock strings now, and these are what I have to choose from:

I have no idea why the Rotos are 45-100, I've had them for a few years, and probably thought about trying medium/light at some point. The Fenders only came in that gauge.

I guess the bass boomers are the safe choice, but maybe it's time to test the Rotos, even if the gauge is a bit light? (To recapitulate: I found the sound lacking with the stock strings. Missing fullness, thickness, low mids, perhaps? And a bit trebly - but that could just be because they're new.)

Also interesting how what you hear and experience from stage is often quite different in the audience. There were lots of technical difficulties (none of them mine) and I thought we must've sounded terrible, but everyone in the audience thought we sounded great. A good friend of mine said it's the best we've sounded. Amazing the perspective.

That's always the case, on stage is not what's heard for the audience.

And here we go :)

Epi Goth body refin'd white, Aerodyne Jazz neck, Hipshot bridge and XTender (installing later today). Stock Goth pick-ups, came back with a top-notch set-up. Sounds like an e Epi Thunderbird IV (same pickups, I believe) which is fine and very different from the Silver FenderBird, which has EMG actives. Plays beautifully and should see action at next rehearsal. A 1/16" shave on both sides to adjust pocket to neck, depth untouched. Fretboard darkened a bit, body finished with satin polyurthane satin 0°, which protects against daily use. A charm to play !

I bought an American Pro neck similar to those last year for a black P/J bass, not sure what they were made for as I've never seen an Am Pro Jazz with a black headstock..

I found a distribution service that enables me to put my music to Spotify etc. I uploaded one song as a try out and then realized that a single needs a B-side! Couldn't edit that so I uploaded another single track and added two bonus tracks as B-sides. I still call the extra tracks that won't be found on an album proper as "b-sides".
It's also a good excuse to put out experimental stuff to unsuspecting punters...

Anyway, here's the other track. It's a sort of an ambient tribute to the late John Wetton. Don't tell anyone but it's not a P-Bass but a VP...
