I have no idea why the Rotos are 45-100, I've had them for a few years, and probably thought about trying medium/light at some point. The Fenders only came in that gauge.

This Rotosound, blue pack, is available in 045-0100 and 045-015 gauges; recently bought one set, but don´t remember right now which one.

When you say “still no output” you mean from the bridge pup only, correct? You do still get a good output signal from the neck pickup, correct? If you’re not getting an output from either pup you probably need to reverse the wires on your output jack.
Just the bridge pickup. The neck pickup is fine and the tone pot works with it as expected.

So, lets assume that all the wiring is correct and the pickup is good based on the 9 kOhm measurement. What could possibly prevent the signal from being generated? Bad magnet? After getting giggly with the pickup wire I think I’ll pull the pickup and look in the can if it isn’t potted.

A bad magnet would be very rare on a newer pup. Is this an Eppi VP pup or something else?
While you have the pup out, you could do a simple test and temporarily clip it directly to the output jack (hot to hot, ground to ground on the jack) then do a simple tap test with a screwdriver on the cover of the pup. If you get a loud pop thru your amp when you tap the cover of the pup then there’s probably nothing wrong with the pup.

That’s not just Sexy, it’s Sleek and Sexy! Love how thin that body gets at the edges. Is it an exceptionally light bass as well?

No, not especially light - 9lbs something. The body and neck are made of poplar, but it has no tr - and in its absence are two steel beams, which encourage neck-dive. But the 1968 neck is straight and the body is very ergonomic.

My latest project finished today - an on-board tuner.

Still has Probucker 760 stickers on the cans. The wires are identical on both pickups but I guess someone could have swapped both and sold it as stock. I guess we’ll see when I pull the pickup. The build date is 12/21.

P.S. the wires look identical to @KaraQ ’s.

IIRC the Pro Bucker cans are soldered to the backplate, so I wouldn’t really recommend taking the cover off. Is it possible for you to post a nice clean close up pic of the back of the bridge pickup?

The back of the pup should look like this…

I wonder what kind of an effect that would have on a modern Gibson.
Probably not as drastic as the Goth. The Goth uses a .068 cap on very hot pickups. The effect it has is, a choked, dark and wooly sound with not a lot of definition. The .022 cap solves that and really opens up the pickups so they can breathe (or more accurately, scream). I think the other modern birds use a .045 cap so not as far off the .022 value.

Still thinking about VTVT....
Do it! It really opens up a whole different level of setting the EQ on a bird, you’ll get sounds that just aren’t possible on a VVT bird. That said, if you’re one that likes to change tone settings a lot on the fly while performing on stage, this probably isn’t the way you should go. It adds one more knob to the mix of things that can change your sound. For studio work it would be fantastic! When I was gigging I rarely ever changed my on board tone settings after sound check unless the sound man requested it, volume yes, but tone not so much.

That’s why I’m now leaning towards a master volume accompanied by two v/t stacks on my next build. It also works nicely with a three knob and two pickup layout.

I'm $h1t for brains when it comes to playing fretless, but I sho' like looking at'em. The TFs are especially striking, IMO.

If there’s a bass missing for me….
Is a fretless.

No disrespect to Willy.
But I’d get a factory fretless.

I wouldn’t mind a TF in LPB.
But I’d def swap the pick ups.

Baby, it's cold outside. And inside, but better now that I managed to get hold of some firewood that wasn't ridiculously expensive. (Not talking about the 'bird, of course).

Replacing the stock strings now, and these are what I have to choose from:

I guess the bass boomers are the safe choice, but maybe it's time to test the Rotos, even if the gauge is a bit light? (To recapitulate: I found the sound lacking with the stock strings. Missing fullness, thickness, low mids, perhaps? And a bit trebly - but that could just be because they're new.)
Hmm. None of the above(I only use flats).;)
