Here’s the Lace pickup info…

IIRC @Gaolee has these in one of his basses. He claimed they are unique sounding and hard to describe because they just don’t sound like anything else. I had planned on buying a set to drop in one of my Goths along with a preamp, but I’m probably months away from that happening. You might be able to find sound clips on YouTube or elsewhere in the Talkbass threads.

Not positive but that pickup sure looks like a standard Eppi Tbird pickup, if it is then the Alumatone 5 string pickup is a virtual drop in replacement IIRC.

I do like the look of that bass, but have never played one. I’ve been on the fence about getting this one…

Buy that bass!

Not enabling at all........

I installed mine about half a year ago. Can't remember the wire count, but it was either three or four wires. Definitely separate signal and chassis grounds, as required by Audere. Did they ever make them with just two wires?

@Hondapunk looks like @ctmullins installed a set of Lace Alumatone pickups in a Tbird shaped object. Looks sweet, maybe he can chime in on how they sound or point us to a sound clip somewhere.

It's alive!

Or at least aliveish. I installed the pickups just to see how they sound and they didn't disappoint. Proper screws, foams underneath etc. will come later and I'll try to make a soundclip tomorrow. The neck pickup is 27 cm (10 5/8") from the 12th fret to the front edge.
If the TB+ are dark sounding they are a perfect match to this bright sounding bass (ash body, maple neck) that always used to lack some mid range.

Who makes a replacement ( upgrade)
pickup for these ?View attachment 5020125
I put China Buckers in mine..definitely pleased with the cheap results.($89.00 a set)
I did have to cut the neck position trim ring.
Gig worthy for sure.
While I was at it I added a Schaller roller bridge, new tuners and a Hipshot extender.
It’s wired VVT with the selector switch out of the circuit.

Cheers.

I like ash bodies.

Obviously you meant the two pickguards , and I agree. The neck pickup is also crooked.

Yes - pg's (changed it) ... as much as I've done something similar on the back-side of my Saundersbird to cover a cavity to lighten it... but not on the front.
