I don’t think I’ve ever used a thumb rest.
I’ll rest my thumb on a pickup or side of the fingerboard on occasion.

I put tug bars on bass guitars because I'm a poseur and think they look cool. Same with covers and ashtrays. My thumb tends to float all over the place, although I have found myself using covers as anchors sometimes.

I sometimes use the covers as a palm rest when playing with a pick. They make palm muting more difficult, but I have found that left hand muting also works.

I’d like to know. Having spent my formative years in SB County and where my parents still live. I like to support SB County businesses.

That being said, the Italia straps from up in your neck of the woods are my favorites. Excellent quality, reasonably priced (they almost always have two for one promotions if you’re on the mailing list) and excellent customer service. I think it was Jeff who turned me onto them some years back.

Those are a little expensive, but they sure look good. 4" wide with black on top and dark red in back might look pretty good on the Flamingo. I have to think about that, though, because it already has a perfectly good Levy's strap.

we play all kindsa stuff……in order for the Bird to not come across as a one trick pony, the (imho) bridge pup is essential…

I have been offered way more than I paid for my red SVT Micro-VR stack. If I sell it, I want to replace it with a small combo that can handle practice sessions with a potential band. Any suggestions in the sub $300 region? Used is fine.

Second question, if you could only have 1 stack, what would be folks choice? Ampeg B-15-N Portaflex fliptop?

A serious stack? Grexa Acoustic 360/361 reissue. It can sound great at lower volume and it can rip your lungs right out. I also don't mind moving large, heavy objects.

I have a Carvin MB12 combo that's served me well as a small amp, and with an extension cabinet, amp for small venues that don't require full rocket fuel thrust. Finding one would be hard, and it would be used since Carvin did its out of business and the back in business routine a few years ago.

If I’m recalling everything correctly (haven’t had my coffee yet, so who knows) it looks like he wants to trade his 2022 Burgundy Metallic NR for your special edition Red Micro VR stack. If that’s correct and there aren’t any issues with the bass jump on it! The special edition micro VR stacks usually sell for around $1000 or less, the new NR is typically in the $1500 or more category.
I considered buying this one but I have other higher priorities at the moment…

This is essentially new. I've used it a few times. Let me know if interested. I'm sure we can work something out. No padding, but due width it's very comfortable. It's the standard length not the extra long, IIRC.

TBH, on its own the bridge pup is so weak, IDK if it's not 'sick'(as in ill, not 'cool'). I've just left it in there to cover the hole. I don't think removing/replacing it would lower the value of the 'Bird any more than it has already been lowered by the body damage, headstock re-attachment, etc.

High end Boutique Bass builder Alembic has finally realized the value added in having a removable headstock model in their bass line up. The new Alembic “Snap” model should be available as soon as they’ve confirmed it’s as effective as the Gibson Thunderbird detachable headstock design.

Meanwhile, rival company Fender continues to push their entry into the random detachment market with limited success. Consumer feedback currently notes the Fender detachment process isn’t as reliable or as easy to activate as Gibsons design. This may be a snag for Alembic as well, which has always been known for their robust designs.

Seriously, I feel for the owner of that beautiful Bass over in the Alembic club. Poopie happens, but why does it have to happen to such nice things. Wouldn’t it be great if headstock detachments were limited to basses under $200 in value. The only silver lining in his story is that the bass was insured (how many of us are smart enough to do that?) through a musical equipment insurance company and they offered to replace it vs trying to fix it. Here’s a link to the insurance company, I’ll be looking into it.

This is what happened to mine, I don't remember how long ago I bought them, was at least several years ago, they may have changed their construction methods or changed the material they use and they are very comfortable on the shoulder. I wouldn't buy them again though, I don't think leather would strip like this. I think I paid more than that for mine.
