I get your point but there are a lot of bands from other South American countries that sing in Spanish and have big hits, Argentina and Columbia have had very successful bands. I think part of it is a self fulfilling prophecy, no rock band from here has ever been successful from Peru so they don't try but there's also very little support here. I have seen some very good bands here though.

This is a very interesting band from Peru, UCHPA, they are part folklore and modern and sing in a language called Quechua from the mountains, I've seen them, they're very good live, song about beer



Here's some recent straight ahead rock bands from Peru who sing in English, the problem is they're not really very original.





Soda Stereo (Gustavo Cerati) and Juanes are two off the top of my head who sold a lot of records out here. I think both Columbia and Argentina are much more rock oriented countries though and support the music, out here? Naa. But spanish music is big business in the Spanish speaking countries.

I bought this album when it was current: Siempre es Hoy- Gustavo Cerati He came from a band called Soda Stereo from Argentina who were very well known here, still are,



Juanes from Colombia- I also bought this when it was new.

with all due respect, don’t know why any of it should come as a surprise…… music is universal….. language will divide….. we Americans represent 4? 5? % of world population? plenty of mullah to be made from the remainding 95%…..from your post, it seems like you are acclimating to the local folk art form as most humans will…..

I recently saw Juanes on American TV with some other artists but forgot where, he had several really good hits over here from that same album. Here's another good one.

I agree with your take. Some songs I can't last till the end. Though I may not like it, I enjoy hearing what others enjoy. I'm fascinated by the different tastes in music. Some of the things posted here I find very cool, some interesting, a few others are what I would play in cells of child molesters 24/7. It's funny as well as interesting how people like find various styles of music that click and resonate with and them. I really try to be open to new to me music, but with some I don't have that much try, I suppose. It's true for everyone and that's partly why it's fascinating. I heard some guys go by in a car this week and the music sounded like cheesy commercial music to me, but they were digging it (I assume). I always want to ask someone with tastes very different from mine, what it is about a style that draws them or speaks to them. I know words often say what we think and represent us in some ways, but what draws us to different styles of music itself within one generally similar culture is just interesting to me. All this said with the acknowledgment that some of what I like is horrible for others.

Ok poison squirrels - here's that Sat night Winters' Tavern/Bond Girl live-stream I mentioned. 3hrs+ long (!), so basically an evening in Pacifica! I love having this document as the opening scene is driving down the chicane into Pacifica to view the sunset. That very scene got me to want to live there many years ago. You can scroll through as much as you want - our full show (warts & all) starts at 49:27 and goes to 1:40:03. Aside from mangling my bass break on "History Repeating" and hitting a brown note at the end of "Never There" (note to self - always play the correct 1st & last note...) I did ok! Luckily for me - the camera-man was facing my amp so my bass comes through loud & clear. (headphone help) Also cool cause' I can watch/hear the other bands!

It was fun watching our friends arrive and you can see how windy it was as the heavy front doors kept blowing open. My Beth carrying Mona came in at 1:04:38 (note NO DOGS ALLOWED INDOORS on the front door! ) and they became live-stream celebrities at 1:07:37! Mona noticed my mistakes and suggested I clean up my act...

This was a great show Geo! Some pretty difficult songs to pull off well, but you did it. I can’t believe I’m saying this about a guitar player, but yours should up the boost a bit more when he solos. He’s good. And great bass playing as always. I thought the version of Wild Is The Wind was great.

I liked the band that followed you too.

Exactly. I listen to most everything. There is stuff that comes up in my Spotify mixes that I never would have thought to listen to before.
