I don’t know how current that song is, but I’d definitely put it in the Pop category today. It could easily fit right in with songs by the band Toto or Flock of Seagulls. Very 1980’s sounding to my ears.

90 I think…..huge hit across most of Europe…..saw them live in a club off Denmark St. in London’s west end..
Yes, I was talking about the UCHPA video, the others especially Juanes are pure pop, I like good rock/pop, Heroes Del Silencio are good. Lots of stuff like that here on the radio, to me t's the same old. I don't know about where you've been but have you noticed how many of the bands still ape The Police? I was talking about that to someone here last week and I guess they were huge out here.
Ever hear of Soda Stereo? Argentine band, Gustavo Cerati was the singer/songwriter (third video I think) they were really good, original sounding.

Such a cool band! There was a Doc about them on Netflix, Frank and I really enjoyed it.
If you guys didn't like the intro part, pretty sure you wouldn't like the regular music part, which doesn't actually start until 40 seconds in

I like Soda Stereo….they were huge in Spain when I was there, also older Argentine acts like Charlie Garcia, Seru Giran and Sui Generis….latins (no disrespect intended) have a different understanding of rock n roll than we do imho, they seem to follow trends…if a band played “Gimme three Steps” in a club in Italy for example, they will get many weird looks and probably empty the room while over here the dance floor would be jumping…. I think partly for lack of blues influence….Police are popular everywhere I’ve been, very much so in Southeast Asia….can’t knock them, pretty genius stuff and being British and having a name everyone recognized prolly helped as well…

He's a youngstah to me! No I've heard of them, just don't like those types of singers(?)
I liked some of the Police stuff especially the earlier stuff, just amazing to me how at least here bands still play like them even sing like them. Peru is kind of isolated I think.
But yeah, I think you hit it, nothing of blues out here, hard for me because just about everything I like is blues based.
Love my HD150! Very cool and unique hybrid with the power section in full valve and the preamp in SS. Even has a switch to drop the output power from 150watts to 75watts so you can push it harder for that nice tube break up.
seems like everything south of the equator in the Americas is….every time I go there I’m reminded the world does not revolve around North America..
There was one here for about US$900. Really happy with my steal of a deal on the Sixty-Five and matching 115RH cabinet. Especially after Chucky gave it the double thumbs up on a matched pair of original Sylvania power tubes.
damn, that’s like 775 US…totally worth it….Dave paid about a hundred buck for his 65, the original NOS Sylvania 6CA7 matched set is probably worth over three hundred bucks alone ….
I like them ok but in small doses. There are a lot of bands in that category.I didn't really care for them when they were new, 20-25 years ago, just wasn't my thing back then, so I totally get it.
I got re-introduced? to them a year or so ago, and I found that now, I really like most of their stuff.
But, a lot of my musical tastes/preferences have changed since then, so these days, I listen to whatever I happen to be liking this week
sure, keep in mind that putting folks who speak English as a second language aside, there are more native Spanish speakers than native English speakers worldwide….they have so many different genres…… tango, andina, salsa, merengue, bolero, rumba, candombe, mariachi, norteñas, banda, milongas (and on and on) some Afro influenced as in salsa, merengue, samba (totally different bag of tricks) and others with native influence….gypsy influence with flamenco and on and on…..one thing is for sure, the Spanish speaking world regard music very highly….HUGE industry….making a living as a full time musician is common in many Spanish speaking countries….Rock is not really a local art form out herebut I thought it was cool how they combined elements of the indigenous mountain culture into their show and plus sang in that language, it's still spoken in the mountainous regions here, my father-in-law spoke it when he was a kid. I like some of the indigenous music, most of it I could take it or leave it, some I'm not crazy about.
I do agree with you about language though, there is a huge Spanish language media for Spanish language music which I would guess is just as big if not bigger than English language media.

Thanks for your kind words Marshall! Paul is good and usually he's a bit loud on his solo's, especially Mission:Impossible where he uses a flanger. It could have been that his amp was angled away from the camera mic because I don't recall having difficulty hearing him that night.
Outside with TSC's tomorrow at 4PM at Winters' Tavern in Pacifica. Their annual "Beaster" Sunday. It'll be Kirstin's last show before her new daughter is born. We rehearsed one new song to debut tomorrow with relative lyrics!

I have to make a conscious effort to smile unless I’m in the zone and not having to concentrate. Sometimes even then.
I think of pop as crossing genres - it’s music that’s made to appeal to the masses. Country has pop just as rock, metal, and punk do. Maybe opera, too. Have to ask my opera singer friend…
