I get the whole pop "popular" appeal to the masses aspect, but history has proven that certain pop songs have become 'classics' - or as I like to say, "classical pop".., music that might have been born as simple "pop" but has touched a nerve to a broader form of music. Like all genre's of music, there's a generic/throw-away version, and a 'high-art' (dare I say) version. I will defend pop when it's good - the same as any other form of good/well crafted music.

How many different versions of Marie Marie are out there? It was originally written and performed by the Blasters. It has been a country song, zydeco song, jazz-ish song and who knows what all else since. A good pop song, like that one, can be anything.

There's a 400 at our practice space. I still need to find out whose it is so I can ask if I can try it out. It's sitting on top of an 810.

No comments about Firebirds. He is slacking. And I have an SG that sound awful when I play it. It isn't the guitar's fault. He is right about being a Gibson guy, though. I have had other guitars and bass guitars. They collect dust or go away if they don't at least have some Gibson DNA somewhere.

I was about to post this because sometimes you're just in the mood for the Afghan Whigs, and sure enough a double whammy of a Thunderbird and Firebird. But John Curley, the bass player, I've only really known to play a Ric. So not sure it's actually a Thunderbird on the recording.

Cool. I've seen them many times since 1995 (remember Tramps, @JJR58 ?) and can't remember ever seeing him play a Thunderbird.
