Interesting Marshall... when I was in High School I ran Cross-Country. I loved the solitude of running alone. It later evolved into being a road cyclist/bike racer. I did all disciplines but excelled in road-races (especially a solo breakaway) and individual time-trials. (suffer-fest) I imagine you know of this classic film - I toyed with writing a cycling-centric version of this classic British film. For me it's about the joys of freedom.

I remember this movie. I ran x country in HS, for two years... The third year I discovered the bass, and everything else went out the window.

Those who know me, understand that I’m not a J bass fan. But this appeared in the classifieds. For Sale - Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 4 with J Retro.

What a gorgeous bass. I’m sure I could find good tone in it somewhere.

Very tempting. But thank God it weighs 10 ponds. That is an absolute deal breaker for me. My wife and wallet are relieved.

Im so un-cultured, all I know of this title is that Iron Maiden has a song of the same name, which is, I’m sure, based on this movie.

Which is also how I discovered the “Dune” books.

There used to be (still is?) a local talk/call-in radio show in the area (WPB-Vero Bch, FL). The host was telling the audience that his wife wanted a new car. "What kind", he asked. She said, "Blue".

Nah. I love it the way it is. It’s perfect. But I came very close to getting a set of DeColas which would eventually have found their way into a blue TBird. They are great pickups. As Maxwell Smart said, “missed it by that much.” Literally two minutes. The seller had two sets. @Engle got the first. I don’t know who beat me to the second set.

It annoys me that Gibson doesn’t offer bass pickups in their pickup shop. They’re missing out on what I think would be a tidy sum of extra cash.

I still maintain it wasn't me! He wanted $100, I offered $90 which he accepted. He reduced the 2nd pair to $90, then they were gone. My story and I'm sticking it!

Studying a broad in Scotland takes a bit of doing. Having been there right after working in Norway was an exercise in recalibration.

We need to know the ages of these broads that were studied..... Then again, maybe we don't.

I’ve played a few Lakland basses over the years and they all sounded great. I’m sure the John East preamp only makes it better. The weight would put me off as well but the real deal breaker for me is the Lakland bridge, I just can’t warm up to the looks of it. It’s the only reason I’ve never been tempted to buy one of their basses.

My ‘95 Thunderbird is going outside to play today. We have an afternoon gig and a little brewery in South San Francisco (for those of you not from ‘round these parts, it a different city, not the south part of San Francisco). I was considering using my Orange AD200 and a couple of ported cabs, but ultimately, since my ‘73 SVT and 810 are at my rehearsal space that is literally “across the street” from the brewery, I decided to go the easy route and go with Ampeg. I figure I can’t lose. Combined with my Lollar equipped ‘95 Thunderbird, there should be more than enough there to handle keeping up with the drummer and Rockerverb 50 full stack that the guitarist is using.

I think this is actually my very first outdoor gig. There can still be “firsts” even after 38 years of playing in bands….

I will check with my daughter re flights. Perhaps @Gaolee can possibly pick me up at SeaTac? I don’t think JetBlue flies to Vancouver. It may be doable. It may not. I haven’t met either one of you in person yet. It would be great to meet both of you after these years of exchanges here in the club.

I’m thinking red eye to SeaTac, arrive early Saturday? Figure the rest out from there.

I know V works weekends, but if she can take a Saturday off and bring Frank, that would be wonderful.

If you can make it work, it would be awesome!

Sounds great!

I kind of liked playing outside. There are drawbacks the bigger the coverage area, but you almost always have one constant--no weird room acoustics to work with, fit into or fight.

So what’s your opinion on the first half of the Dune remake released a couple years ago? I think the second half will be released this fall, looking forward to seeing how well they wrap it up.

Special effects were so much better than the first take at the book. I don't recall much deviation from the book plot. On the other hand, nothing beats someone killing off Sting
