Thunderbird Club

hogwash…..what he doesn’t mention is that if you flick the standby switch on (off standby) prematurely (before the electron cloud fully forms around the cathode) the suddenly impressed HV on the plates will yank chunks of the electron rich thoriated tungsten lining off the cathode most definitely shortening tube life……you think experienced amp companies like Fender, Ampeg, Marshall would erode their margins with an expensive unnecessary switch?….

Weather. aircraft and trains aside.
I never knew Hendrix played this.

It's fake. The pic is even backwards. Who does that? :D

I don't recall seeing this either. Sweet guitar.

Yep, I believe the SG first appeared around '68 (when that photo is, based on his clothing), around when he started using a few different Gibsons, namely 50's LP Customs and Flying Vs. He switches to it here around the 36:30 mark for Red House and Sunshine of Your Love.

I should add tube rectifier amplifiers do have an inherent soft start where perhaps one could live without the switch but you still see them unless the amps are very low power, cheap or both...

I’m gonna go into the vacuum tube supplier business. But first I need to start a campaign of removing standby switches from all valve heads. I’ll make a fortune!:D

Just like Ollie Halsall did:

Awesome! How was it? How's the new personnel working out?...

Hot, and the onstage sound for the bass was not so good, but out front I'm told it was fine and our sound girl for the venue is a bassist so I guess it was okay. I really didn't care for the onstage sound much and our guitarist still had a couple equipment gaffes, and our singer actually could calm down just a little as she hit headstock of the Greco with her arm twice and one more time on the MPC for good measure.............Live and learn, plating live is what is needed, it'll get better. As an aside I find my right hand is a bit achy today, getting old sucks.
