In addition to the four basses above, I’ll be bringing some gear to give away as door prizes, including a very unique and cool sounding travel size bass for one of our lucky fly ins that unfortunately couldn’t bring their own bass. A monstrous sounding dual channel tube driven overdrive pedal. A new Gator Gig Bag, several unique string sets, and even a special guitar related gift for Frank for putting up with all our bass antics (aren’t many guitarists that’ll do that for four days straight). That’ll all happen on Saturday morning sometime.

I’ve never been a fan of slapping, but I’ll tell ya what, that was some of the most tastefully done slapping I’ve heard. I actually listened to the entire song (unheard of with me and slapping). As for the hair, she obviously doesn’t ride around in convertible cars much, that’s one serious head of hair for a kid, or an adult.

In 2016, when i was working at my local music store (steve's Music in Montreal, Canada), there was an older Gent who came in with his Gibson Grabber to have it fixed. Sadly, we weren't able to do the fixes, so he came back to get it, very understanding. On a whim, i gave him a paper with my name & number, & mentioned if ever he wanted to sell it, i'd be interested in buying (knowing full well how much these went for on used market online). SIX years pass, & in all that time, i had forgotten about it. Until last October 2022, when we got in touch, & met up late in the month. I originally bought it for 400$ from him (which is what he was asking for), but after discovering the truss rod was broken, & it'd have to be fixed (or possibly a new neck built entirely), he refunded me 200$. So i am the proud owner of a 1975 Gibson Grabber, in wine red. Aside from the broken rod (which i'll just fix with stewmac rod saver tool), a refret with the correct fret size, & some dings/scratches all around the body, it's all original & sounds killer! Though i have swapped the output jack for a switchcraft, & replaced the saddle height screws with shorter allen ajustable ones (kept the original parts in the case, the output was too loose to keep a good connection, & well the infamous tall saddle screws will cut my hand if i rest against it while playing).

Anyway, here's a picture

^^^This makes it my third Grabber bass; the first being the one i built in 2014-2015, the 2nd being a 70's copy branded Maya (which i've modified/updated parts). But none sound like this one growls.

I've got a Hipshot extender on my bolt-on 'bird; it was a direct-fit drop-in. Took a bit of tinkering to get set up just right, but it works well once done :)












I might as well make this post a bit longer, because Thunderbird Thursday :D

Thanks. I’ll check out Hipshot. If I do the ‘21 NR, it’ll definitely have to be a Hipshot to match the stock tuners.

Re Ibenez: Believe it or not, our local GC once had a Talman on the wall with a cracked headstock. The bass had obviously been dropped. But there it was…..
