I had no reason to but I bought the waza craft boss tu-3...

I already have a white korg pitchblack, a tu-2 and a tu-3... still not sure why the pitchblack is white...

Interesting. The pics I just posted are from the Gibson brochure. Different caps. And different switches. What cap is in your EB?

Since mine isn’t here, I can’t take pics today. Hopefully this weekend. Caruthers was in it some months ago to replace the input jack. AFAIK, that’s all he touched.

I tried to read the cap size but it’s too small and at the wrong angle, so no luck. The switches are just a different color, still wired the same and should function exactly the same. According to Gibsons 2015 fact sheet all the pots are 500k non linear (audio taper?) and the cap is .022uf. With those values I would have expected it to be a brighter sounding bass than it is. The pickups are about 9.5k and 15k ohms resistance, not overly hot for humbuckers.

I do not like UPS much. I bought the incoming white Epi LE Custom Shop last Thursday. UPS in Syracuse had it Friday. It did leave UPS until late yesterday AM.

Actually they are almost the same electrically - except for the added capacitor on mine. The switch grounds out the W/G conductors effectively taking one coil out of the circuit.

12AX7 vs. 12DW7 : Tone, Reliability.

In case it's not clear from that thread, it will technically work in this case, but since the "12AU7 half" is higher current, it works better in this case as it's a cathode follower. Otherwise you starve the following stage, and it won't sound as good. Nothing should catch fire.

No, they are definitely coil taps, confirmed with a tap test on the exposed coils. The North coil remains active in split mode on each pickup (I would have wired it with North on the neck and South on the bridge to maximize the range of the two pickups).

My local GC has all Epiphone basses on sale. They have a brand new black VP for $639. It's nice, light, and plays well. There was also a new green Embassy for $399. The store is in Commack, NY if anyone is looking for a deal. Not sure if this sale is at all Guitar Centers.

Well, unless you put a wad of steel wool on the socket before you push the tube in place. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Just checked out my 2015 for @Stealth57, No odd wiring, just a standard coil split, no caps other than on the tone pot and no resistors anywhere. Marshall is correct, the switches function as a coil split with full humbucker mode in the down position and single coil mode in the up position. There is a noticeable volume difference between the two switch settings, with humbucker mode being fuller and louder and single coil mode being thinner and quieter as you’d expect.

While I had it open I did notice the tone cap hot leg was nearly touching the pot housing so I spaced that out a bit. I will also note, I have EBCF strings on mine and even with the tone knob maxed out as bright as it’ll go it’s still very dark sounding - if and only if - the volume knobs are at 8 or less. If you turn either volume knob past 8 or 9 there’s a drastic jump in treble regardless of the tone knob setting. My EB13 with the similar pickups and coil switching method does the same thing, not quite as drastic though.
Some of my other Gibson birds do take a significant non linear volume jump from 8 or 9 to 10 but the tone knob is still largely functional. On the 2015 it’s as if the tone knob is removed from the signal path at volume settings above 8 or 9. No big deal, you just have to remember it when you adjust tone or volume. Still sounds great.

Yep. The hot leg (leg that is soldered to the tab) on yours looks pretty close to grounding out on the pot housing as well. I ended up lifting mine a bit with a small screwdriver, I don’t think there was enough room to slip a piece of paper between the hot leg and pot. Kinda surprised it never grounded out.
